Great new app: Vine.
It's the video answer to Instagram. I see a lot of short stop-motion animated posts. I hope it catches on.
I bought a Nook Simple Touch e-reader for my girlfriend, and it just arrived from the US... it's absolutely brilliant. <3
I was compelled to write this:

You just made me want to rewatch The Sword in the Stone.
Pretty cool news. They found a skeleton under a parking lot and discovered its the remains of Richard III. He was the last English king to die in battle and he remains were found 500 years after his death.
Well, they didn't exactly stumble across the skeleton, a woman researcher has spent years trying to convince the authorities to dig there, because that's where the remains of the Greyfriars Priory were located, and that's where the records said Richard III was buried.
It's amazing that they could get a positive match for his mitochondrial DNA after 17 generations. :D
I'd love to see a facial reconstruction done, to see how it matches the official portraits.
I am beginning to think I get too angry at things that should be mere pet peeves.
My biggest is when someone goes out of their way to make it known how little they care about something. I've seen it all over the place the last few days with the Super Bowl.
So many people making a point to talk about how they DON'T care about it.
I don't mind people not caring about it. Things aren't going to be liked by everyone. But dammit, if you really DON'T care about it, don't talk about it. You don't see me going all over the place and posting how little I'm interested in watching Downton Abbey, do you? No.
Do you know why? Because it doesn't freaking matter. Other people like it. Some people like it a lot. Great! That's their thing. That's their passion. Why piss on their party? Let them have it and just MOVE ON.
When people do that, it comes off as a really horrible attempt to gain some kind of "hip" or cool cred for not caring about something that's popular.
It also smacks of a passive aggressive attempt to get people to stop talking about it. Sorry, man, the internet doesn't revolve around you. It's public. Other interests are there. Get over it.
Do you know what would be more constructive? Instead of talking about how you're not interested in someone else's passion (unprompted, mind you), go focus on something you ARE passionate about. This world needs more of that anyway.
So...yeah...as you can see it winds me up. It used to be a minor annoyance. Now I want to punch people in the face through the screen. The posts all seem so self-congratulatory.
It's like those people who go to movies "they don't care about" just to make fun of them and ruin them for the people who actually are there to enjoy the movie. Spend your time on something more constructive, people.
Unless, of course, that is your passion...ruining others' moments of happiness. In which case, you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity.
Rant over. Sorry about that. But I feel better now. Thanks.
Fezzik, when you're assaulted left and right about the Superbowl it does begin to wear on you. "Who do you think will win?" "Who's your team?" "Who are you rooting for?" "Do you want to pay into our betting pool?" No. I'm rooting for nobody. Because I don't care. And then for days afterward, "What did you think of the game?" I thought nothing of it because I did not watch it. I've been awake for two hours and I've already had two people ask me what I thought of the game.
Why do non-sports people have to announce that they don't care about the Superbowl? Because if we don't, we're hounded with annoying questions. Same goes for the World Series. I don't care. Stop asking. You may not be guilty of this, but many are. All last week I had to explain to my customers that I was not a sports fan. It's always an awkward discussion, too.
Don't get on our tits for diffusing questions proactively.
Ha! I do that occasionally. Sometimes it's because it's something I don't understand or can't follow (sports, popular music) and I'm intrigued by other people's fascination with it; but sometimes it's because they're investing a bunch of time, energy and money into things that I consider stupid or wasteful (high fashion, especially shoes, watches, and purses; etc.)
That said, my nutty former roommate regularly posts on FB complaining about the state of the world, and she always begins with, "I don't watch the news..." or "I don't follow the news..." or "I refuse to keep up with the news, but..."
Well, congrats on your ignorance.
The difference is, you were asked about it. I get that.
Of COURSE you'd tell people you know that you don't care - you're basically giving them warning that you're not interested and to please leave you alone. But "Guys, I don't care about the Super Bowl" is much different than the passive aggressive stuff I've seen.
I'm talking about people who go on Facebook (or other social sites) and post pictures or memes or comments about "Look at all the fucks I don't give" or whatever. Like a badge of honor.
If I'm in your home - or if we're in a small gathering somewhere, and the topic goes to something that someone really doesn't care about, we're of course accommodating - it makes sense that everyone be engaged, but in a public forum, expecting that same courtesy is insanity.
If I go to a public place and people are talking about something I don't give a rat's ass about, I either ignore them, find some people who also don't care and try to start a conversation, or leave. I don't get up on a table, grab a bullhorn and say "I don't give a shit about what you guys are talking about."
There's a difference. I empathize with your situation, but that's not the behavior I'm speaking about.
Fair enough. :D

I WANTED IT TO HAPPEN AND IT HAPPENED!
PARTY IN THE RANDOM THOUGHTS THREAD!

Partying on the 1234 page!

OK seriously what the hell is going on?
Is there a way to find out if there is unauthorized use on my account?
My posts are disappearing and I can't get a new avatar or sig up.
Am I being deleted off the site or something? "OK new MC - first order of business, get rid of meg!"
I would suggest contacting 8 or Eric and/or post in the bug section. Otherwise please remove yourself from the 1234 page party pooper.
But in all seriousness, that's weird.
WHAT IS GOING ON?????
I'm literally watching my posts disappear.
What the hell is going on?
