My favorite part of spring is when the quality of light changes from white to yellow. I enjoy a bleak winter light for awhile, but by spring I want that softer, warmer sun. It can be slushy and wet, but when the trees flower and the daffodils come out, spring is really lovely.
I was just thinking about this last week, wondering when the annual "what's your favorite season of the year?" topic would be raised again, because it always comes up around Autumn since most people prefer it.
I've lived in the Eastern U.S. all my life and I prefer Spring also. I agree with all of the great things about Autumn and that's why I love it as well, but there's a psychological element for me. I dislike knowing that with Autumn comes Winter shortly thereafter and, in particular, the months of Jan and Feb when the appeal of the holidays is over and we're just left marking time until it's no longer cold as all hell. Maybe that's unfair to Autumn, but it's a herald of the cold season that I hate so much.Quote:

I used to love winter with abandon, but my current house makes it difficult to enjoy, as it is a heat-consuming money-sucking monster in the winter. I like the outside during winter, though.
I'm with Amber; late January and February are kind of depressing, and (here, anyway) August is too muggy to really enjoy.

I open and close my eyes during kissing. Usually I open when I start getting bored or curious and start looking around. I don't have sensitivity on my lips so kissing for me is mostly boring.

Fall has football, good movies coming out, horror films, and delicious seasonal driven beer. Its my favorite season, although I like spring as well. Winter I only hate because people don't know how to drive in snow and ice up here, and summer I detest because its too hot and because of the bugs.
A general update on everything that's been happening lately:
Hi all. It's been a good amount of time since I updated you guys on my attempts to make positive life changes, so I figured now is as good a time as any, so here goes.
1 - The run of Next Fall at the Tallahassee Little Theater ended this past weekend. We set ticket sales record for the Coffeehouse Theater and sold out 6 of the 9 performances. Word of mouth was incredibly strong and we even had some repeat customers. More importantly, though, at least to me, was that the show inspired courage in some audience members - see, the show is a drama (a hilarious drama, but a drama nonetheless) about a gay couple, one of which who is an atheist and one who is a Christian and has not come out to his parents yet. After several of the shows, the director was approached by people who told her that seeing the show made them realize that now was the time to have 'that conversation' with their family. The show gave them the strength to step over that hurdle and for that, I am most proud.
2 - As Next Fall was in rehearsals, I realized that I would only be happy if I continued to be involved in theater somehow so I made a personal decision to audition for as many shows as I can, regardless of whether I felt I'd get a part or not. To help this, I start voice coaching this weekend in an attempt to get my voice in shape for the Avenue Q auditions next April. Also while working on the show, I've been asked to audition for an upcoming production of Babes in Toyland, which is being directed by the woman who directed Next Fall. At the same time, I've been asked to read for the part(s) of Sir Toby Belch and/or Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night, which is being directed by the same director who oversaw the production of Much Ado About Nothing I was in earlier this year. On the theater front, things are really going well. I'm happy.
3 - I had my latest update at the Bariatric clinic last week. My current weight is 339 lbs. On May 22nd, I weighed 385. For those keeping count, thats a grand total of 46 pounds lost so far, and it means I've fulfilled my insurance company's requirement of losing 10% of my body weight before they'd sign off on the gastric bypass surgery. Two more months of monitoring and I can put in a claim for it - I hope to have the surgery in February.
4 - This one is certainly the most surprising to me, is that during the rehearsal process of Next Fall, I realized that one of the female cast members and I were circling each other in a more than friendly way. Here we are 7 weeks later and we're officially dating each other. As someone who hasn't dated in about 9 years and last had a real romantic relationship in 1997, I am completely at a loss as to what to do, but Leslie is very understanding (even as she teases me for being 40). She's a beautiful woman, inside and out. She has a voice like an angel, looks like Carla from Scrubs (which makes sense - she's half Puerto-Rican and half Dominican) and can give and take sass like nobody I've known. She's a good influence on me, and I've already found new strength just by knowing her. I'm hopeful.
5 - I interviewed for a new position within my company last week. It's for a publication coordinator. Basically, my job would be to research and write. I couldn't ask for a better fit. It'd let me work remotely, I'd get a salary bump and I'd never have to answer a help desk call again. In this, I am also hopeful.
And that's where I am at. So many things are going well in my life, I don't know whether to embrace it or gird myself against it all collapsing at once. Its an embarassment of riches right now, and I don't want to screw it up.
Another theater/job post:
Next month is concentrated rehearsal for Midsummer, running the last week of October. Tonight, I just found out I got a job helping to open a new restaurant in West Seattle, full time.
I anticipate lots of stress in the near future.

So in other words, if we judge by our present drinks, she has much better taste than me.
And great choice on the gin & tonic. It's the weirdest thing - I hate gin, and I hate tonic water...but the two of them together are delicious somehow.
As long as you're enjoying what you're drinking, its all good.
