To be fair, though, it's classic survivor's guilt. It's pretty common to be obsessed with what you would or could've done when you escape unharmed from an incident that killed others by sheer blind luck. He just phrased it terribly.
Seth McFarlane was in the same situation and his outlook on it is much better.

Yeah, he was hungover and missed the gate closing by 10 minutes. He's pretty cool with it. He said he didn't realize the plane that hit the towers was his until it was all over, so to him, it was just a flight he missed, like people do all the time. He doesn't think there's any significance to any of it. That's probably how I would've looked at it.
