You guys know how much I love to brag about my city. Well, another great stat for Saginaw. We have been rated the #1 most dangerous city in America with populations over 25,000!

Weird. I thought we LA-ers would have more than just East Palo Alto to our name. I feel bad for anybody living in San Francisco...
::looks around::
The crime maps attached are really interesting, because they break down the neighborhoods by safety. It's also a good representation of why The Wire's East Baltimore vs. West Baltimore thing is so simplified.

That's very strange that Myrtle Beach and Florence (two places I visit as I have relatives there) are higher than freakin' Baltimore. I know MB is fairly bad but even still, that's pretty shocking to see.
And WTF Salisbury? #4???
Yeah, for Saginaw it shows how centralized the crime is. Pretty much anywhere near the river is bad news. That's where my wife and I lived for the first couple years we were married (because that's what we could afford), but I grew up in one of the blue areas, so as much as I rag on my town, I haven't been very affected by it. The public schools are garbage, and I've had my car broken into a few times, but otherwise I've caused more crime than I've been victimized by it.
I looked at the Best/Worst public schools, and it's hilarious. Basically, if you are a school in Massachusetts, you rock, and if you are a school in South Carolina, you suck.
i knew the new mayor had been doing a good job of cleaning up youngstown, but i'm still kind of shocked to find it nowhere on that list. it was in top 10s pretty consistently for awhile.
Having watched The Wire, I believe that Saginaw is not the most dangerous city... just the one with less cops willing to juke the stats.
This is a weird request, but does anyone know of anywhere where you can torrent articles like this. or any site that helps with finding professional research papers?
Oh my god, that's horrible.
The cat's reaction is awesome. He's like... "hit me? take this!"
I'm with you quite a disturbing video and a good example of child and animal abuse. That kid is obviously crying throughout the whole thing as he's attacked by an animal while his "parent" films it laughing. And as a cat person who has had multiple cats my whole life (4 at the moment) I can tell by the way it's behaving that the cat has been seriously abused or is feral.
Didn't seem that disturbing to me. Slightly strange, I suppose. Or maybe a little disturbing, I don't know. Funny either way.
What fucking asshole would film that?
Russians.
To cleanse your brain from that, here is a porcupine who gets adorably upset when asked to share his corn on the cob.

Yeah, my parents also have a male cat who acts this aggressive. It is a stunningly beautiful cat, but he's a dick to everyone aside from my mother. He does not like being touched unless he approaches you. And he's equally aggressive on that end and will demand that you pet him. Always been that way. I hate the cat and try to have as little interaction with it as possible.
Here's the little devil...
