I’m listening to Scarette talking to her friend about Animal Crossing, and now I know how she feels when I talk guns with Bauer and various nerd awesomeness with bac0n.
I swear, the LA Meltdown chapter of Duke Nukem 3D is one of the greatest gaming experiences ever.
God I love that shit.
Finally put together a respectable campaign (as Romania) in super-deep WW2 sim Hearts of Iron 4. Despite some local annoyances (seriously King Carol, how many Bucharest villas does your mistress actually need), I managed to reclaim most of the Balkans, plus more. Split Czechoslovakia with Germany, puppeted Bulgaria, then annexed Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Greece. The Kingdom of Romania had become a sizable blob, roughly the size of France. I turned my eye toward Turkey.
This whole time (1936-1939) I thought myself a badass for keeping my politics non-aligned despite immediate pressure from communist Soviet Union to the east and fascist Germany/Italy to the north and west. Well, I won't be doing that again. No kingdom is an island when the entire world is burning. The Soviets demanded one of my states. Invincible and proud, I declined, and fortified the border. They declared war, and when I saw their massive army I panicked. Luckily, the United Kingdom invited me to join the Allies despite my politics. Little did I know this was my first real error.
My downfall was the false security gained from my long list of new allies, most of which (I was too foolhardy to see) had already capitulated to the Axis powers. Incredibly, I was holding the line against the Soviet Union. The UK invited me to join them in defending Luxembourg--psh, sure whatever. I'll say yes to save face and let them deal with it. After all, I had bigger fish to fry on the Eastern Front. I didn't realize that, in this timeline, Germany took Luxembourg before Poland, and I had unwittingly joined WW2 proper.
March 1940, the Axis powers had already conquered Poland, Denmark, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. With my entire army holding the line against the Soviets, I watched Germany and Italy waltz through my borders. Instead of rage quitting, I decided to show respect to my best Hearts of Iron run yet by seeing it through to the bitter end. The music turned sad and magnificent as those fuckers took Slovakia, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Greece, and Bulgaria. The Allies saw what was happening and broke all ties. By June 1940, Bucharest fell.
Lessons learned for my next run: I'm not good enough yet to do it alone. I'll pick a side and go all in. A Communist France might be fun. Also, I'll be sure to actually know what war I'm agreeing to join.
Just lost the best 3D environment artist we had to Ubisoft... Dammit. I wish her all the best but this completely wrecks my process.
Getting into Ghost of Tsushima a bit more. Sure, the small plots are very similar, but it's pretty fun to go from spot to spot and honor the various shrines, find fox dens, and compose haikus.
Reviews for MS Flight Simulator 2020 are out and if it's your thing, then the immersion and real world mapping is every bit as astonishing as the trailers have led us to believe.
The upcoming VR update seems like astonishing icing on the proverbial cake.
edit: reading further, this is really amazing. When you play online, the game makes use of real weather maps. So if it rains in London and your flying in the general area then it will rain in the game. Real air traffic is simulated in-game with virtual airplanes.
And the draw distance is so preposterously good, that landing lights can be glimpsed from faaar away, just like in real life.
VR Flight Simulator eh? I wonder what that's like.
Is it true that the map is the entire world, seamless?
It's prob real close.
Can't wait, but I hope it doesn't force the multi-player aspect.
They don't show much gameplay but I assume it's based on the arkham games? Only it's developed by WB games and not rocksteady.
Where's the Suicide Squad game?
Not until 2022... igh (PS5 and Xbox 4 or whatever)
