Interesting article on IGN today. An interview with Shawn Layden (ex-Playstation exec) saying the current business model for AAA game isn't sustainable, and will probably have to change as soon as this upcoming new generation.
And he's right. Games being made over the course of 5+ years and costing $150-million and more will either have to disappear, or cost more than $59.99 (or $79.99 CAN).
Yeh I think the single player AAA games will significantly drop next gen Meg.
But certainly there are examples that payoff such as both Resident Evil remakes. Those games were turned around in 2-3 years and made BANK. OF course, that was also because of a pre-established franchise... But unless you're Rockstar, and you have a sustaining revenue model setup (GTA online, RDR online) to give you some money while you work on the next best thing, games like Last of US just will cease to exist unless a publisher (Sony) gives them free reign to do whatever they want over that time-span.
I'm also a huge fan of what Hello Games, Overkill Software and Colossal Order have done. Where they create a base game, and release DLC supporting the same game over the next 4-5 years. Fans love to see that.
No Man's Sky is basically a case study at this point. I feel so bad for that poor lead developer, Sean Murray,, was also put in charge of marketing by Sony (bad move), promised a slew of things that never made it to the game's initial release date... the game received so much hate... Bourn went into exile (as he's an introvert) went back to work on the game, and has been releasing massive updates ever since the game launched bringing the game to what his vision originally was to begin with. The game has completely turned around on the steam charts and is always in the most played game on steam now.

I was so pissed that I missed the platinum due to a bug, I vowed never to touch the game again. But that was before any of these updates, so the idea that it's almost a new game now has me excited to try it again.
I played No Man's Sky for a few weeks when it first came out, liked it okay enough, but moved on when it became abundantly clear that there really was nothing more to the game other than grinding to get stuff you can sell to improve your ship's storage capacity so you can... grind more stuff.
Anywho, this was before the first of the major updates, and I've been meaning to revisit it at some point. I heard there's stuff you can do like building bases on planets and space stations and the like.
And fully functional multiplayer was added.
At the time of launch, they double down on the idea that no two people could ever meet in the galaxy because it was so big.
Thus as it turned out, in the game's first week of launch, two players on reddit found they were near each other... met on a single planet, but realized they were invisible to each other. So the multiplayer thing was a hoax.

My issue with No Man's Sky is that despite the "size" of the galaxy, it really just felt like there were ten things being rearranged. Everything still kind of looked the same or felt the same. Animals with long necks would just have different colors, or this time they had short legs and spikes...
There was just nothing to do.
I also think I got trapped on a planet. Landed somewhere, and then had no way to get back to the ship. lol

Holy shit this is amazing. You can turn on developer commentary & hear the original devs talk about the game's design, their decisions, why certain things are the way they are, differences between platforms, etc. They'll give specific details depending on where you are on the level. It's really freakin' cool.
Goddamn this might be more fun than the original DOOM replay??!?!

I don't think it's too surprising but LoU part 2 sold 4 million copies during it's opening weekend. Fastest selling PS4 exclusive ever which makes me wonder what the fastest selling PlayStation game ever was?

Just re downloaded Last of Us. Maybe I’ll be in a stealth mood during the second half of the week.
It takes a bit, but when I arrived to the Stalkers, that was a sense of horror that I haven't had in quite some time. Heck, hiding from the humans and dogs is pretty terrifying in itself.
I also better get every one of those trading cards.

I started Aftermath story mode in Mortal Kombat 11 this morning, and I have to say, Cary-Hiroyuki Togawa is just delightful as Shang Tsung. Some of the best motion capture and voice acting I’ve ever seen in a video game.
