I guess this just aired. I missed it. I was disappointed at first, but then I actually saw the lists, and there are precisely eight films on them that I have not already seen (and five of them are in sports).

What kind of sad, pathetic people do nothing with their spare time but sit around and make movie lists?

*cough* :|

Almost every genre's #10 pick is WTFuckable.

I don't understand why Shrek is treated like some sort of modern classic.

I see W.T. Fuckable as an old-timey elixir salesman.

Blech, I know. The same reason The Sixth Sense was chosen as the AFI's modern classic of the horror genre in their recent Top 100 10th Anniversary.

Their entire project is validated by their recognition of The Thief Of Bagdad. Yes!

It hurts that they can't go outside of American films. The Animated list... At least it was presented by Jennifer Love I guess. I didn't see it though.

Fantasy and Romantic Comedies are good lists in my opinion.

They do Courtroom Drama and not War? Of course, they also consider Animation a genre.

Maybe they're saving war for next year. They're running out of genres, though. I wonder how much longer they can keep this up.

Goddamn right, The Searchers, and White Heat above Bonny and Clyde. North By Northwest is a mystery? City Lights is an amazing choice for Romantic Comedies. Spartacus should have been ahead of Gone With the Wind, but I suppose that's a lot to ask.

The lists aren't that bad. They're perfectly expected. AFI is for people who want to watch "classics" and, seriously, they can hardly go wrong with most of these.

I started out watching the show last night, but my mind wandered away fairly quickly. My daughters were watching too and they lost interest when The Little Mermaid wasn't mentioned in the animated category. (My younger daughter was also upset that no Miyazakis were listed and I explained to her that it is only American films. That didn't satisfy her.)

I think I just mumbled something to them about the most fun with these lists being in disagreeing with them or some such bs.

I did love the moment -- and it surprised me -- when Raging Bull beat Rocky as best sports movie. It also made my evening that Pride of the Yankees was listed. What a great movie.

That actually angered me. That Shrek was on the list, but stuff like Sleeping Beauty or the Incredibles wasn't just ticked me off.

Oh, and I still think Snow White is the most overrated animated film ever (and I'm a Disney fanboy).

Also, Back to the Future at #10 of Sci-Fi...it was a nice surprise they included it, as I always have felt its one of the single most underrated films ever made.

Sooo aggressively dull and obvious that I wouldn't be surprised if Rosenbaum's already published a book in response.

It was sad watching Michael J. Fox.

The fact that this average attempt made it into the animated list, at the expense of the classics by Don Bluth, makes me quite angry and confused.

I have only seen The Secret of NIMH, but it's certainly on my top 10 animated films list.

Yeah I don't take AFI seriously anymore. I can now take stock in the fact that no matter what any Top 10 list of all time I make can't be as boring or as predictable as theirs. Although I think mine are sort of boring/predictable :P

I enjoy the lists only because I like seeing clips, and there are occasionally some interesting comments made. Also, as an American film whore I look for recommendations. I'm actually interested in seeing that Streep film about the dingo I never heard of until now. And it reminded me I need to see Anatomy of a Murder.

A Cry in the Dark is a great film. One of those "why don't people talk about it any more?" films.

Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time finding it. My video stores don't seem to have it, and even the Internet is not doing it's business for me. Damn shame.
