I rewatched The Apartment. I was wrong. I was dead wrong. I was young, and was expecting a comedy (due to AFI's list), and I made snap judgments. This movie is wonderful. It was sad and beautiful and charming. I loved it.
So, can we all forgive me and not refer to me as the guy who didn't like The Apartment? I'd appreciate it. I think I've embarrassed myself enough over the years.

Would this be the wrong time to request a rewatch of Dogville?

Now we just need to work on Miyazaki, The Beatles, and puppies.

This could be quite the epic thread.

Miyazaki and The Beatles have no hope (though I don't hate The Beatles). Puppies are okay, but they pale in comparison to kittens.

Oy. I wouldn't get your hopes up. :)

Good for you, K-Fan!

Yeah, KF is dead on with Blade Runner. No apology necessary.

Nah he is totally right about that. I can't stand Dogville either.

K-Fan doesn't like puppies?
No more rep for him, ever.

I like them. They just can't hold a candle to kittens.

A lot of people here need to apologize for Blade Runner, methinks.

Ah. You're wrong, but that's acceptable at least.

Glad to see he's come to his senses on one of the best movies ever made.

Agreed.
My opnion is right.
It's a perfect movie.

I also agree with KF about Dogville and Blade Runner. Good to see he's come around on The Apartment though, just a charming, subtly powerful film.
Since you don't like Miyazaki KF what's your stance on anime in general? Perhaps you'd prefer some of the darker stuff. As long as you don't have anything against animation, as a fan of the Japanese aesthetic I find it likely that there's some anime out there that you'll like.
Oh wait yes, you said you liked Serial Experiments Lain. What else do you like? *is on a recommendation bent*
You should check out Mushishi... it's like the organic, more spiritually minded version of Lain (techno side)... they both have a similar elliptical editing style, and a creepiness about them... but the animation is much better in Mushishi and the storylines more interesting.

The first episode was good. I should get around to watching the rest of it.

Which one?
The director's cut.
I prefer it without the narration and cheeseball ending.

It improves steadily with more backstory on Mushi's and their nature as well as Ginko's past and just generally more compelling storylines.

I think only Ridley Scott needs to apologize for Blade Runner.

Well that's a bit too far towards the hate side, it is still an incredibly influential visual milestone of science fiction cinema. It's flawed but still relevant.

Your metabolism is flawed.
Blade Runner, on the other hand, is a tight sci-fi thriller. Love every minute of it. My favorite is Director's Cut.

Certainly an improvement on the theatrical. I'd like to give it one last shot, check out the final cut.

The Final Cut is the one to watch.
What were KF's gripes about 'The Apartment'? Hell, I don't even there was a way to gripe about that movie.

If I didn't know you really liked the film, I'd think you were being sarcastic using "tight" and "thriller" to describe this film.
As for The Apartment, I rented it when I was just out of high school when it appeared on the AFI Top 100 Comedies list. I was wanting and expecting something hilarious, and it didn't deliver. It has its funny moments, but even after a rewatch I would never call it a comedy.

Well, it kind of still is a comedy.

I've found that "comedy" has a wider range of meanings, the older I've gotten.
