I don't mind that we only get one or maybe two westerns a year these days, because they tend to be more quality-over-quantity lately.

Open Range in 2003, The Proposition in 2005, Seraphim Falls in 2006, 3:10 to Yuma in 2007.

Now Appaloosa in 2008.

It's actually a great time to be a western fan.

I'm also really eager to check out Takashi Miike's Sukiyaki Western Django.

Last year we had two westerns, and two others with a western style and feel to them. But yeah meg I too prefer to see just a few quality westerns a year instead of too many that suck.

Renée Zellweger is the only member of the cast that I don't like. The rest are pretty awesome. I will be seeing this movie, but then I'm a huge western fan. The trailer just upped my anticipation quite a bit.

Though there are so many out there I still want to see.

So many of the "classic" westerns from the '30s on, and many Spaghetti westerns...I've still yet to see Django.

Aye, I'm behind on some of the "classic" ones as well. And Django sounds pretty cool. I've only seen 30s western wise Stagecoach, which is a great film, and some of John Wayne's really old ones he made before he became a star. I want to get my hands on Rauol Wash's The Big Trail, which really gave Wayne his first "big" role.

Laaaaaame. Sexist and "retro" in every dull, unimaginable way. And God I friggin' hate Renee Zellweger.

This is the first time I actively disliked her, although I haven't seen everything she's done. Here she was just hideous and I couldn't believe that she would be the subject of any real strife for any guy. Ariadna Gil (the mom from Pan's Labyrinth) was much better.

Namely I was just bored with the film. Viggo's character was great and at times I liked Harris' character and the relationship between them, but it wasn't enough for a seemingly totalitarian fetish flick, especially with that anti-climatic ending. The best moments were in the quiet scenes on the marshal office front porch.

And I'll admit I was totally confused about what was happening when they got to that town after capturing Bragg again. The film really seemed to shoot off into this unrelated third act there.

I really wasn't thinking vanity project until I'm heard Ed Harris singing over the end credits complaining about women whorin' and screwin'. That kind of sealed the deal for me.
