Looks like Tony Scott's planning to bastardize this classic film. Wanker.

The original kicks so much ass. Deja Vu is the first Tony Scott movie I've been able to stomach, so hopefully he'll progress from there and make this similarly bearable.

Just trying to picture his current style with this narrative... things are going to get ugly.

Deja Vu had some of the worst time travel logic in any sci-fi movie.

I like Spike Lee's version more already.

Meaning? I thought the 1974 version was directed by Joseph Sargent?

Which is the same director of Jaws IV.:)

I had no idea they were remaking this until on Friday night while going to see Friday the 13th I looked up and saw the poster for it hanging up high on the wall. I was like "WTF? I had no idea they were remaking this." I eventually hope to view the original.

Replacing Matthau with Denzel is like someone kicking me in the nose repeatedly for a month.

That said, it's Tony Scott, so I'll see it. But I'm making everyone I know see the original first. No way am I letting Denzel win.

I sure hope that if I'm ever forced into a hostage situation, my wife doesn't feel the need to still nag me about picking up milk.

The wife is just trying to convey the notion that "you might have a moral responsibility to these hostages, but you can't overlook your responsibilities as a father and a husband... most of important of which is coming home... alive."

Of course, in reality, no one would actually talk in such hokey metaphorical terms in these circumstances. That only happens in movies. The stupid ones, anyway.

Of course it's just a trailer so we're missing the context of the rest of the conversation.

I just thought there was probably a better way to convey that message than making the wife seem like the ultimate nag.

I just didn't care for this one. Not very tense or thrilling.

I'm still trying to decide if Travolta does a great job here or not because Ryder was a thoroughly detestable person. From his barely controlled anger to the foul language seemingly for the sake of itself, I wanted someone to put a bullet between his eyes.

And I didn't buy Garber trying to turn action hero at the end.

The dialogue was much better than I thought it would be. The action cam stuff was god awful though.

I like Travolta as a bad guy. Swordfish, Broken Arrow, Battlefield Ear-..hahahahahaha...

No but really I want to see this.

From my Playtime review (http://www.playtime-magazine.com/2009/06/action-as-easy-as-1-2-3/):

"His [Travolta's] over the top ranting is good counterpoint to Washington’s quiet, put-upon moral fiber, but even his stabs at genuine ruthlessness, like the repeated epithet 'motherfucker,' come off simply as a schoolyard bully trying out a new word. A quick rundown of Travolta’s previous villain roles, including Swordfish, Broken Arrow, and (shudder) Battlefield Earth, give a good foretaste of his performance here. Only in Face/Off does the Travolta-playing-Nicolas-Cage dimension give his bug-eyed brutality a measure of un-ironic entertainment value."

After the usually bombastic summer tentpoles such as GI joe and Transformers 2, The more basic "Taking of Pelham 123" was a bit of a breath of fresh air in spite of Scott's jittery style which I didn't find too intrusive here btw. It was a lot of fun. The original is great however.
