I do this one. It was extra special. It was a benefit screening in Seattle with Kerry Fox and Jane Campion in attendance. I remember being blown away by the movie, but I only gave it a 9 because, well, it has been 18 years.

I saw Berlin Alexanderplatz on dvd a few months ago for the first time in about 25 years. I remembered it being one of the greatest things I'd ever seen. It looks even better to me now.

She's made quite a few for someone who's career started in the late 80's... plenty of time left.

4 in 14 years is not bad, I guess, but still - I have the feeling that Campion would be liberated by have a more balls-to-the-wall shooting style, because, while I do like a lot of her stuff, some of it seems almost embalmed, like it has to carry the weight of the entire feminist theory in a single scene, or something.

The movie is a lot more bizarre then I ever thought it could be. Where In The Cut takes obvious turns, Holy Smoke continued to surprise me throughout the movie with the progression of Kate Winslet and Harvey Keitel. Or rather, the change of power.

Although it gets a little strange when Keitel gets in a dress. :eek:

Indeed, indeed. I really like the way the film sets up Keitel's character and then subverts your expectations.
