Well I meant to say 'one' not 'you' ... or rather I meant you in the sense of one... because both were on peoples hate lists.
KF, I guess if I were being fair I would have put it in the meh category but I just barely watched it and since I've felt consistently let down by Kitano I'm feeling a little reactionary. I hated Sonatine, disliked this, thought Fireworks was only adequate, and I could swear I've seen Boiling Point but for the love of me I can't remember anything about it. The new Zatoichi was the only film of his I've enjoyed so far and even that had it's problems.

Yes. It's sort of an experiment in odds. I've noticed some peoples worst movies are peoples favorites, no surprise. However, I'm going to seed all 128 of these movies by tomatometer in a 128, one round elimination bracket and then eliminate till we get one movie left. All this will be decided by:

It's Pullman. Trust me.
He is very good here. I think it is the whole cast, though. Such pros as Boyle and Warden are superb here. Plus, it is one of the few romantic comedies that is made without a whiff of pretense and actually downplays the love story. It is actually more about the family than anything else.

It's Pullman. Trust me.
Pullman is a good deal of the appeal for me on this film. But then, so is Bullock, who's never been cuter or sexier than she is here. Also, ultimately, it's formula done well, without the irritating, winking-kinda-but-not-really irony of many more recent romantic comedies.
Rowland

it's the movie that dies because of its own cleverness. imo, its weakest link is all those amaturish, reality-based performances. those people are non-talented, or at least the film-makers don't try to help them.

I've been put off by the universally negative words. Well, Armond White called it 'brilliant', though that's generally a testament to universal negativity elsewhere.
I find Raising Arizona only mildly enjoyable. Hudsucker is better as far as their zany comedies go, I reckon.
