Watched it for the second time last night. The movie is elevated by the Raimi touches and is overall a ton of fun. I'm kinda ehh about the cameos.

An uneasy compromise between Sam Raimi cinema and the MCU's style and vibe still delivers a pretty interesting blockbuster. The movie is at its best when dealing with the Horror elements, although I still enjoyed the more Marvel-ish Illuminati segment. If I was afraid they'd skimp on the gore and violence those scenes proved I had nothing to worry about. And by the way, I think Stephen Strange might be the best and most iconic casting and performance after RDJ's Tony Stark. Yes, including Captain America. Also, when did Elizabeth Olsen become so damn good?

Sloppy and borderline incoherent plotting at times, both within its own story and as a character arc continuation from WandaVision, so the film is really lucky to have Sam Raimi for the former and Elizabeth Olsen for the latter. Raimi polishes the script up with some real fun, stylish visual touches (those sliding, floating transitions!) and gleefully strategic use of PG-13 violence, while Olsen makes the best of her character's baffling new status quo by investing it with both effortless campiness and tangible weight of real pathos, which helps to mostly transcend her initially unsatisfying starting point in the film. 7.5/10

First half is solid, last act is very satisfying and had some good Raimi touches, middle section is a mess. I liked zombie Strange, felt the movie tossed away WandaVision altogether, and of course Disney wouldn't let Raimi create the R rated horror film he should have been allowed to make. Still gets a thumbs up for the effort, yet I'm glad I didn't pay to see this in theaters.

I meant they ignored how much progress she made at the end of the show. Also that Wanda wouldn't do what she did in Doctor Strange imo. Big difference between enslaving a whole town and killing tons of people.

Eh, I sort of get what you mean. I don't know if there's such a huge ethical leap between enslaving people and murdering them but I do agree that her character arc is reiterative on the show and the movie. Really, it should be one or the other but both are among the best recent MCU output.
