This really commits to its genre's raunchiness (I gasp-laugh-wince at that dealer set-piece at the playground) while staying on the right side of not going over too cartoonish. That makes the sweetness at the film's core, and the leads' emotional lives being taken seriously, never come off as pushy or maudlin. Best exemplified by the final scene cinching on an *amazing* last shot. 7/10
