Is this playing in real theaters, or is it one of those made for Disneyland/Universal Studios things?

The CGI was really uneven in that trailer.

The shot in which they're falling is particularly crappy.

I might watch it just for the sensation that I might catch a glimpse of what Cameron's Avatar is gonna be like. Which is what I said about Beowulf of course.

totally
where's Brendan Fraser been?? Those two Mummy movies were hugely successful (money wise) and he just kind of disappeared.

Watch the original instead, the effects are better than in this one.

Saw this last night. Not a bad experience exactly, but it's really an extraordinarily below average film. The story is totally useless and the film does play out like a very unspectacular spectacle. The characters knowingly follow the story of the book, which was different than I thought, but the fear is realized: these are paper-thin archetypes of people.
I saw the beginning three times as the projectionist struggled with the digital 3D projection, which is moderately well-done, showing at least some modicum of restraint and avoiding moments of pure novelty. Still, the larger picture here is gimmicky and this is a film probably best enjoyed by very uncritical families. Plus, most people will see this in 2D as most theaters don't have DLP, relatively speaking. Now that's a movie I really don't want to see.
Sidenote, Brendan Fraser was there for a Q&A. He's a little bit nuts. Very nice, but drunk? Earnestly eccentric? Not sure what was happening there. It is an odd situation, I guess.
