Would have been much higher if I had been able to follow the action. The action was terrible. Shaky-cammed and machine-gun edited all to hell. Also thought the antagonists were a couple of non-threatening fashion models. All the old-timers were terrific, though. Great chemistry.

Yeah, the Dirty Harry sequels aren’t anything to write home about. The highlight is the 44 magnum auto loader in one of the later sequels.

I enjoy Magnum Force and The Enforcer a lot. Sudden Impact is decent enough. The Dead Pool might as well be a parody it is so awful.

The Enforcer is entertaining enough, although it seems lighter than Dirty Harry and Magnum Force. It also feels like it's just bordering on parody. I actually thought Tyne Daly might make it to the end alive, but nope. Which is too bad, because her death feels more comical than it does tragic. "Awww, shucks. Lost another partner.". 7/10, but not good enough to make my Top 10.

Thoughts?It may be my favourite Burnett so far, surpassing Killer of Sheep in narrative fluidity and My Brother's Wedding in technical polish (from what I've seen of his later films, it's only rival in both departments is Nightjohn). The basic situation is fairly familiar but what Burnett does with it on a moment-by-moment basis is never predictable, yet at the same time, every development feels inevitable; the film's ending is especially surprising and delightful.

The cliche is going strong in Sudden Impact, too. This one was entertaining enough, although I thought the rape scene went on too long. Rape scenes need to be handled with a delicacy that few filmmakers seem to understand. In its favor, at least the scene was played as awful and violent rather than lascivious, as some 70s movies did. (I'm looking at you I Spit On Your Grave.) 7/10. Didn't make my Top Ten, though.

I think the movie takes it seriously enough although I agree regardless. Also I Spit On Your Grave is an awful POS movie that I despise.

is it in 4:3 on Tubi? I found a dvd copy at my local shop today. Second time I came across a copy at a store in the last six months, so I bought it since I had regrets about not getting it the last time I saw it.

Hmm I donno. I often like to go with physical media if I love the flick or like it a lot since so much stuff gets pulled from streaming way too quickly.

This is interesting, because I've watched 20 of his films and I thought this was his worst - and that it was really bad on top of that. I suppose a rewatch is needed...

Perhaps. Top shelf Kurosawa is top shelf all-time, which Bad Sleep Well isn't. At the same time, I thought it was visually striking, briskly paced, and overall a tragic indictment of bureaucracy, power, and the illusion of honor.

Edit: Meant perhaps as maybe revisit maybe not. The writing is pretty bad and the "twists" are weak.
