Was looking for a glimpse of Olyphant or Biehn but nothing.

I was lukewarm on S1, but the last Waititi-helmed episode made a lot of amends so sure why not.

More excited for this than I ever was for Rise of Skywalker.

That's not to say much... so I'll still say that I'm pretty excited for this.

I'll sign up for Disney+ when this is all viewable, and Soul. That's all I'll need for my one month with that service

I mildly enjoyed Season 1's episodic nature as a change of mode for appointment TV well enough, but I find this premiere better than all of last season except the finale. It feels like they start to figure out how to write more engaging one-off stories among season-long arc here. Plus, that dragon and all the action around it are pretty spectacular, with Timothy Olyphant as Space Raylan Givens ("I guess every once in a while, both suns shine on a womp rat’s tail") just the cherry on top.

I don't know about filler...but man was that a step down from first ep of season. It was half an episode! Credits rolled and I was like, huh?? Could have very easily continued the story another half hour. Did they make it there? Did they find the husband? That was odd. It was still enjoyable, but we only saw half the story!

They could have easily thrown some additional dialog in there that explained more about why the X-Wings needed him to comply. I didn't understand that confrontation at all. Why run?

Yeah I didn't get that either. Did you have contact with some...thing...boom gone. Huh? I also found it weird that in the second confrontation with the X-Wings when they saved him, he asked for help and they left him. That didn't float with my childhood notion of Star Wars rebel/imperial right and wrong.

I took that as one of those things where all ships have an emergency airlock in the cockpit that is always airtight. Kind of like how ever car has a spare tire. So them leaving was more like: "Put on your spare tire and drive the speed limit and you'll be fine".

But of course, the open hull would incinerate everything in the ship upon reentry to a planet.

Agree with the criticisms. The tone was also just weird. I was horrified by Baby Yoda eating that woman's eggs. Seemed obvious that they wanted us to sympathize with her desperation since they went out of their way to include a heartfelt scene of her pleading to Mando to help her or her entire line would be extinct. And then they close with a scene of Baby Yoda popping another one of her babies in his mouth. So, I was supposed to think that was...cute and precious?

I remain unconvinced that this show is good. I enjoy it, but am frustrated with the pedestrian writing in almost every single episode. They needed to change something up this season. The novelty of Baby Yoda has worn off and they can't ride his coattails anymore. The more they don't realize that, the more its flaws will be the main takeaway of each episode.

"Rookies" (Season 1, Episode 5) convinced me on the merits. That was engaging and ... totally fucked up.

Also, I've said it about 37 times already on MC, but that fight of Anakin and Obi-Wan v Dooku is one of the best in Star Wars. It's surprisingly dark and I'm kinda shocked how much I'm enjoying. My expectations for anything "Star Wars" related couldn't be lower, I've heard nothing but bad to lukewarm things about "Clones" for years, but ... I just watched 3 really solid episodes. (One of them had a guest appearance from George Takei playing a Separatist warlord. Weirdly jarring to hear Sulu's voice in "Star Wars," lol.)

I glanced at a few "best of lists" on some fan blogs and this is def the vibe I got, too. Like, the show really takes off around season 3 or 4 and gets wild.

But I dunno, man. I think the first season is pretty good. They got a wide cast of characters, varied plotlines, tons of cool locations, plenty of action, and some relatively sophisticated themes. This is worlds better than the other animated "Star Wars" shows I've seen and definitely better than "The Mandalorian" on a per episode basis (despite "Clone's" notable lack of Baby Yoda).

Another thing the show does extremely well is editing. Example: theres more than one mission to reach an objective. Show follows one group for an episode. Next episode follows the other group, but develops objective in creative way that the viewer learns just what they need to. Paths steer towards convergence, but just dont fully cross, to where the viewer has all the information, but can understand why the different groups make possibly not quite right choices because they dont know what the other group knows.

I know that may sound vague and dumb, but I really marvelled and that editing. It kept me ensnared. It built the characters character while they were separated, then when they do come back together, they felt stronger for separate reasons, because of their different experiences.

blue ball episodes

Perfect term for the endless tease of modern tv.

I was surprised this episode was directed by Robert Rodriguez, who has a rep for delivering low budget material with flair, but this looked like shit. The writing and action were both terrible.

They've falling into this weird formula where every week Mando has a videogame style quest ("defend Baby Yoda against 30 bandits") and there's always special guest star or character.

Also surprised they went to back to the "fan favorite" well right after an episode featuring Ashoka.

Didn't understand why You Know Who allied himself with Mando after Mando returned the armor. Like, Mando was already obligated to do that by his own belief system. You don't owe him anything, dude.

At this point, doesn't You Know Who make Mando irrelevant? Why not just call it The Boba Fett Show from now on? Why would the producers upstage their own protagonist this way?

I remember saving my proofs of purchase from my Star Wars figures, then sending them in and counting the days - the interminable wait!- until Boba Fett arrived, and then losing my shit when I saw him standing in the star destroyer with the other bounty hunters - including Bossk, whom I also sent in proofs of purchase to get. It's kind of weird how much love there was for that character that did so little in the original trilogy.

I would submit that it was BECAUSE the character did so little in the OT that he has such enduring appeal to the fans. Don't know if you know this or not, but Boba Fett was actually an action figure before he was a movie character. You could send in 5 proofs of purchase, and Kenner would send you the figure. Speaking as a boy who was 7-8 years old at the time, mad with Star Wars fever, just like ALL of my friends, this was a really big fucking deal. Here, amidst all the comparatively drab and dull Star Wars figures, you had this colorful warrior with a cool kinda-stormtrooper-but-not-helmet, a jet pack with a missile launcher on it, and what looked like wrist blasters and who knows what other gizmos hidden in his armor. You can imagine all the kids' imaginations running wild. It was like a willy wonka golden ticket.

Then he shows up in Empire, we all go bananas finally seeing Boba on screen, only to do not so much. Okay, that means he must get his proper treatment in whatever movie comes next. Annnnnnd... Jedi comes along, and he gets maybe a shot off, shoots a grappling hook, and that's about it before he goes out like a chump in the sarlacc pit. Not exactly the fate befitting the most dangerous bounty hunter in the galaxy.

Not satisfied, a whole non-canon series of stories are stood up, and it is all but assumed that he somehow escaped the pit. Comics and stories abound, keeping the legend alive.

So, when I saw Boba demonstrating the skills that made him as feared a bounty hunter as he is, I was watching through the eyes of that 7 year old who got that action figure, finally getting to see Boba get his onscreen due.

I'd argue that Fett did something major: He's the only character to outsmart Han Solo.

But you nailed the zeitgeist. Marketing the toy a year or so before the movie came out was pure genius on the part of Lucas and Kenner.

I had a blast with this episode, tho the weird twitchy maybe-cgi (?) stormtroopers ragdolling threw me a bit. That and the fake explosions. It looked rather cheap. Side question: Why are they still not utilizing the amazing books they de-canonized? At this point, who gives a shit? People love the books and they (at least the ones I have, outside of Leia and Hans kids) wouldnt really effect the Mandalorian show or the most recent trilogy. Go for it.

One more episode to go, then I will read this thread. It's an unremarkable season so far although the first was hardly top shelf television to begin with. Episodic to a fault, uninspired scripting (seemed like every level, I mean mission was of the 'you do this for me, and I'll do that for you' variety), set pieces which resemble video game levels, superb guest stars which didn't leave much of An impression. Mandalorian just doesn't cut it.

Will avoid spoilers, so won't be reading this thread until I finish...

But Episode I.

-Loved that it was a bit longer than last season's episodes.
-The "fan service" was done better in this episode than anything in the new trilogy. Not only did it use it well within the realm of this particular story, it also improved on something that fans have hated on with the updates (the Krayt Dragon scream).
-Something about some of the well-known actors just looks weird in the world of Star Wars. I bought into the Olyphant character, but something about his look, and others from before, just seems too polished and clean... It's definitely just a thing for me at least. No spoilers, but you might come around on that this season. Maybe not.

The spider episode! Ha. It's so away from the story, but I dug it. Similar to last season's monster episode. I like that he randomly shot ones that had no chance of being close to him either.

The Heiress. This one was just okay. It was cool seeing the takedown of the starship, but I don't really understand why the Octopus-guys had anything against The Child/Mando to try and kill them. Just odd.

Unfortunately, I've been spoiled on Skywalker arriving, but know nothing else.

The Siege: Directed by Carl Weathers is awesome.

The Jedi: I haven't seen the Clone Wars, so I don't know much about Ahsoka Tano, but that was a heck of an episode.

The Tragedy: Didn't think this would happen. Figured it was just a cameo. I like it though.

The Believer: Hahaha, Burr's back. It's still so Burr that I can't really take him too seriously, but the whole raid by the Pirates was awesome at least, and the Slave I ship in action is cool too.

Again, standby that they know how to use fan service.

Finished. I feel like they tried to give Luke Skywalker the "Darth Vader Rogue 1" feel, but it wasn't nearly as good. If anything, how the hell did Luke know to go there? This was far away from the location that Grogu had sat on that rock thing. He also just looked... Odd. I almost didn't think it was Mark Hamill as Luke.

The show has a trend of "just when things are about to end, something happens last minute" but the Luke Skywalker X-Wing is the most farfetched of the whole season. Everything else worked in some context or didn't feel forced.

Overall, I highly approve of the first seven episodes and the general approach to the rescue otherwise. It definitely catered to more fan service this season, but it still all worked (besides Luke).

Whatever they feed people in Jabba's Palace sure adds the pounds. Boba better fire that chef or that armor isn't going to fit.

The Siege: Directed by Carl Weathers is awesome.

What pissed me off was that twice the enemy's crosshairs lit up bright red, indicating a hit was inevitable as per the way these things work, but nope. I know the empire's masterful at hitting diddly squat, but this was a cheat. Here's a suggestion, which of course no one that matters Will ever read, but how about moving away from that stereotype and actually having enemies that can hit something?

Not that the episode wasn't sorta fun and action-packed, but I didn't find it thrilling. There is so little built up, so little development. It's literally Carga saying 'there's this thing, let's go there and cause some ruckus'. It's basically a side quest on an Assassin's Creed world map.

I loved that part. Reminded me of Django Unchained when The doc says fuck it and shoots Leo.

I think Season 1 was better but I really enjoyed Season 2. I'm curious about what Season 3 will be like. And man did that final scene tug on my emotions a bit.

I'm not sure about a Fett spinoff. We'll see.

Wonder when Mando even goes for Season 3 at this point now that Grogu has gone off for training.

Does this also mean that Grogu dies when Kylo revolts?? *I'm sure this will be a season*

Half the season he chases bounties and there are hints of an "organization". Half way through season he gets some real info from a bounty, the "organization" is hunting Grogu. Time to go find Grogu and warn the teacher. Rest of season. Final ep, cliffhanger.

Better yet, who do we want to see next season?

Would totally be fine if they were to hire him to rescue other "Force Strong" individuals to bring to the Academy.

My list:
1)Dengar

That's the list.

Oh maybe also when he finds Grogu, Ahsoka shows up at same time and her and Luke have a low key fight because they dont know each other.

But Mace Windu steps in at last second and stops them both! Eh? Eh??

I cant believe Hollywood hasnt hired me yet. /sarcasm

Yeh they kind of written themselves into a wall. I'd rather the show NOT revolve around Grogu.

Speaking of which, my life size sideshows collectible showed up last week.

I wonder if The Book of Boba Fett will just be a collection of individual stories, or if it picks up with him taking over the Palace. As it stands, he's not too interesting going forward in the current timeline. Would find it more interesting to see his escape from the Sarlaac and why the Palace obviously means a lot to him.

Anyone care about Gina Carano being dropped/cancelled?

StuSmallz

No, because she hasn't actually been "cancelled", she's just facing reasonable consequences for making offensive statements, and they never should've hired a Sandy Hook truther on that show in the first place anyway.

Who does she have dirt on that Hollywood keeps trying to make her a star? She literally awful in everything shes been in. Dont get me wrong, shes a fucking fighter, and if forced in a ring with her I would shit my pants and climb the walls like Split trying to escape, but even less than double digit length word dialogue bits shes AWFUL.

She couldnt say "hi I'm gina" in a movie without sounding awkward and weird and unnatural.

I attribute it to lazy casting. Yeah, she's unrivaled in her look/build which worked well in all her roles, but all that needs to be done is to audition through the many other female fighters in UFC/other fighting networks to find the next one, and maybe they won't cancel themselves either.

*Sigh* That scene still didn't hit me hard like it did for others. Thought it was way too forced and out of nowhere. I know they were going for a "Light Side" of the vader scene, but the Vader scene seemed so much more fitting (and still surprising)
