Well, this was a fitting companion piece to It's Such a Beautiful Day!!!
The story works well thanks to a couple brimming with chemistry, so much, in fact, that the film is content with having them just bouncing off each other for the first 3/4 of the movie, and the movie being much better for it. It plays it as a budding, but subtle romance. At no point there's a big declaration of love or that "big" gesture ever present in typical romantic fare; instead, we get actions, moments and connections, fueled by equal parts desire, confusion and fear of what both of our protagonists know it cannot last. And then we get a twist, which I am not going to reveal, but it not only pulls the rug from under the characters and audiences, but re-contextualizes what they knew, or thought they knew about themselves and reinforces the film's themes of the fragility of life and how at the end of all, we are only as good as the connections we make.
Overall, this was a beautifully animated and bittersweet drama which knows when to punch our feelings and has some of the best moments in animation of the past years. There's a particular scene involving a Truth and Dare which is equal parts tender, sad and revelatory. It's awesome.

I want to see this movie because I'm sure it's as amazing as it looks! But when the Fathom Events trailer for this would play before whatever movie came to theaters, I swear I thought it was called 'My Unforgettable Spring' because of the title card in the middle of the trailer, before looking at my phone.
Then when I actually caught the end of the trailer, I had to do a double take.

And yeah, I don't think you'll be disappointed. This movie is REALLY good.
