Ultimately liked Queen and Slim for two very strong lead performances. I was with both characters the entire way. Kaluuya may be one of the better actors of this generation.

However, I feel like the movie is unsure of what it wants to say in the end. There's bits and pieces that could make it pretty fascinating, but it never goes as deep as it could. Instead, it kind of stays one-note, like many of the supporting characters.

There are tonal shifts throughout the movie, it does run a little long, and takes turns for the over-the-top, but Matsoukas conveys a lot with her use of music, Kaluuya and Turner-Smith put in tremendous performances, and the stylistic choices here are unique in their juxtaposition of black anxiety and social disconnect with quiet, intimate moments of romance and contemplation. It’s equal parts intense, reflective, thought-provoking and dreamlike all at once and I haven't stopped thinking about it since it ended.
