Damn, I was so tempted to Nay this... but I give it a marginal Yay. I mean, it's an obvious, sugary, you've-seen-it-all-before dramedy about a guy with Down syndrome who escapes confinement and meets a down-on-his-luck loner played by LaBeouf. Dakota Johnson simply plays Nurse Ratched as a love interest instead of an antagonist. And yet it's well made enough, funny enough and features enough of an easy going soundtrack and great casting in small roles (including Bruce Dern and Thomas Haden Church) that it would be unfair to deride it. It's too much fun. It's better Oscar bait than Green Book, too.

Yeah, I had a good time with this. It's nothing world-beating but it's really enjoyable, save for maybe the final 15 mins where it loses its fastball a bit. LaBeouf is incredible in it, though often he seems like he's in a different movie than everyone else. Guy has incredible naturalism in his performances these days.

There isn't a poll out on this already?

There is: http://matchcut.artboiled.com/showthread.php?7600-Peanut-Butter-Falcon

You left off the The in the title though, so it’s not as instantly findable as it otherwise would’ve been.

Aaaah my apologies, I only checked with the article.

Can't wholly escape the twee indie template but the filmmaking details and characterization are thoughtful enough to counter that halfway. It attains a brief real magical stretch when the three principals are together at last during the journey towards to that wrestling school. Almost tempted to call this LaBeouf's best performance if not for the potential of Honey Boy coming around the corner; 2019 is quite a year for him. 6/10

Marginal Yay. Sure. Hard to hate.
