I haven't heard MUCH about this film, and although I loathe remakes, the fact that Lawrence Kasdan ("Raiders of the Lost Ark" AND "The Empire Strikes Back") penned the script gives me some hope for this.

Kasdan also brought us Dreamcatcher.
That gives me no hope for this film.

I enjoy the original film for what it is, but there is certainly room for improvement. A good film delving into Greek mythology would be most welcome.

Kasdan more or less sucks (he has a couple good scripts early on, but I haven't liked almost a single thing since). The original film is pretty lame is many respects, but is glorious for Harryhausen.
I have little desire for this project.
The original was fun, but suffered from such poor special effects, even for its time, that I think a remake could actually work here.
Despite his recent work, this script could be in far worse hands than Kasdan, but they need the right director. Just imagine this project in the hands of a Peter Jackson or Alfonso Cuaron.

indeed. as said, the scene is well constructed. from the built up with death as the gondolier. to two-headed cerberus. and the face off with the lady in the dungeon when we first see her as shadow on the wall. classic.

That was actually going to happen, you know.
There's a book called "Gates of Fire" telling the story of the Battle of Thermopylae and it was quite explicit in its description of the naked fighters.
Plans were to make a film of it, featuring Bruce Willis as the leader of the Roman army. But that was scrapped, I guess.

DenOfGeek.com sez:
Firstly I need to state that time is short as the screening was late last night. We’ve all heard how studios screen films close to release if they have no faith in a product, to avoid the critics backlash. Well I’m no posh critic, I’m a big movie geek. But lord, do I now know what the critics mean.
Secondly, and I cannot emphasise this enough, do not pay out for the 3D, as it simply isn’t there. The director didn’t even want it apparently, but lo and behold Clash Of The Titans was retro-fitted to turn a fast buck and the result is shocking. Please, please if you go and see Clash of the Titans, watch it in 2D before this whole mess gets out of hand.
Talking to other audience members there were a couple of scenes specifically adapted to be in ‘proper’ 3D, but the difference was negligible and the rest of the film just looked darker and foggier as a result of the tint in the glasses. I have never been so insulted by such a criminal intent to rob the public, so to any studio who attempt to cash in on the success of other, better films with this technique: don't.
Yeah, I knew the 3D was gonna suck.

Ralph Fiennes is actually kinda cool. I like his first appearance.
The movie's not very good, but I have some pervert glee watching Leterrier trying to surpass the original with his Medusa sequence. Fat chance. The original's among the most tense and well-directed action sequences ever; from the solemnity of Charon, the two-headed dog and the slithering shadow on the wall. The new version confirms to the cliche that less is more
Although I kinda like this sexy medusa.

I have not seen the original, and I didn't expect anything from this one beyond some amazing special effects and Perseus fighting monsters - not even that delivered. The movie is terrible. The darkest hour of every actor involved. I don't feel I really have to explain why I feel this way, but anyway the movie is unintentionally funny, poorly written and edited in a really weird way that substracts any sense of suspense and climax from the story.
At least I liked the Djinn.

I actually don't feel anywhere near the sort of hate most seem to for this. Maybe all the details about the way the script and basic plotting went before the studio starting messing with it is the version that's slightly taken over in my head (with no thanks to the fact that most of those scenes are on the DVD).
But even still, the way the movie actually came out, despite it having no interesting characters (maybe outside of Mikkelsen's, and more due to him than the writing) and inconsistent story (much of that again, seemingly due to the changes) and all sorts of things I've probably already forgotten; it's still more entertaining than I expected it would be. Some of the visuals, even if they don't support much in the way of dramatic weight, are still pretty great, particularly in the opening and ending sequences. The action isn't very exciting either, especially in the Medusa seem most seem to point to as a standout, but it hits the right beats for the most part and all of it has a consistent atmosphere and geography to it.
And yet, even with its many flaws, I find it nowhere near as bad as similar things from this year like Prince Of Persia or The Last Airbender, and even a few actioners that aren't too much like it.
To me, it's mostly enjoyable, campy fluff.
