Finished Tuca & Bertie. Super deranged animation which feels a little like BoJack Horseman meets Scott Pilgrim. Although the humor was a little hit and miss at first, I felt it got consistently better and better; and just like BoJack Horseman, it shines brighter when it leans on the drama (although it isn't as heart wrenching as BJ, which, being fair, almost nothing is). The cast is good, particularly Ali Wong (Bertie).

My favorite aspect of this, however, is how personal it does feel (specially after seeing interviews with creator Lisa Hanawalt, who does seem a lot like Bertie), particularly with issues like sexual harassment, power dynamics, low self-esteem and that feeling of being stuck and going nowhere. Good show, I hope it gets another season.

Yeah, but then the entire shot is painted over with CGI, removing all of the live action element. Even The Jungle Book at least had Mowgli, though literally everything else around him was similarly painted over in CGI.

If you want to get technical, the original Snow White was done the same way, where they filmed actors in live action, then took that footage and drew over it. Yet nobody argues that that’s an animated film. The technique being used for The Lion King is the same thing, but for the modern era. *shrug*

It's desolate, lonely and feels full of uncertainty, which is augmented by a slightly dissonant score and it's a nice reflection of Tulip (red-haired girl) state of mind.

I'm shocked. The first season is a brilliant, hilarious send-up of anime tropes while simultaneously being a vibrant, absolutely badass example of them. And so much of the animation is just spectacular.

The second season had a change in animation studios, so many felt the loss (of Madhouse), but it had a lot of good in it too and could be just as funny in parts.

I can't highly recommend the second season, tho it is good, while I can't highly recommend the first season enough.

Finished S2 of Disenchantment. Overall a bit more consistent and funny (much, much funnier) than the first season, however, there's no episode that reaches the emotional heights of the closing three of S1 and I'm still not entirely sure about the prophesy arc. Still, this was good overall and I'm all for S3.
