A little round-up of what I've finished lately:

Chihayafuru 3, the third installment of the Karuta-themed show, remains excellent​ at building up tension and pulling off plot twists (the Karuta competitions are some of my favorite anime episodes ever) while still featuring a very likable set of characters, a very well executed love triangle and a bittersweet ending. This is definitely one of my favorite anime shows ever.

I don't have much to say about the final season of the new DuckTales except that it was very satisfying. We had a nice Darkwing Duck and a couple Gizmoduck episodes that were very good, a very meta sitcom episode in which Huey (Danny Pudi) pulled that Abed energy once more and a finale that was the right amount of epic and heartwarming. I wish we had remakes as carefully and lovingly put together as this one.

The Looney Tunes Show has... aged well, actually. I had written the show out a few years ago after a few episodes, but this time landed better. There isn't as much of the type of humor one would expect from a Looney Tunes product, relying a little more into a more grounded and subtle humor. Daffy is the best character of the show and Lola is better than ever. I could've lived without some of the musical numbers and specially the CGI coyote/road runner shorts though, thankfully the latter are gone from S2.

The first season of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, a show centered on this NEET who is reincarnated in this fantasy world while retaining all his previous memories, engaged me quickly. We have our fair share of D&D shenanigans, a kind of twisted family and what seems to be building toward a weird harem anime. It has a really nice balance of humor, adventure and suspense.

The feature tells the story of Aws, a potter with a secret past who’s caught up in an epic battle to defend his city Mecca. It is co-produced by Saudi Arabia’s Manga Productions and Japan’s venerable Toei Animation.

The Journey is directed by Kobun Shizuno (the Detective Conan films, Knights of Sidonia), from a script by Atsuhiro Tomioka (Pokemon films) and with character designs by Tatsuro Iwamoto (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney game series). Originally due to premiere in 2020, the film will now come out on June 25.

Been a while since I've done a round-up of what I've finished:

I'm loving Steven Universe (seen the first two seasons). Very sweet, with some great character work and I adore that sorta GN look. Peridot is my favorite character so far. If there were any sort of flaw of those two seasons is that there are a lot of episodes that do not advance the plot, and even then, a lot of them do have some great character moments, are very funny or both. Not a bad episode yet either.

Invincible has been a damn great show so far. Lots of twists I didn't see coming (dat first episode), unexpectedly violent and just a hoot to watch. Might be my favorite animated show of the year so far.

The Liberator was better than I expected. The show should've been longer, the characters are either walking cliches or just not developed enough to stand out (hence, it should've been longer), but it does have a fairly compelling main character, cool animation which apparently it was done with a brand-new technique mixing live-action actors with CGI, which I'm guessing it involves some sort of rotoscoping (it doesn't look CGI, though, more like a sort of paining). Whatever it is, it looks really nice, fits the tone well and works well in the battle scenes (which are tense, well staged and choreographed and very tense). It doesn't have any instances of talking heads, which is a plus in a documentary like this.

The first season of Birdgirl was a bit hit and miss for me (maybe because I've never watched Harvey Birdman?). I remember enjoying the episode with that one guy who was in a land made entirely of foreskins (not a typo).

The eleventh season of Bob's Burgers was it's usual, comfort food, reliable self. It still makes me laugh, I still love the Belchers and it's silly little town and all episodes featuring Louise and Regular-Sized Rudy are awesome. I still can't remember a single bad episode in the entire show's run.

The second season of Amphibia was an improvement from the first one. Now most of it out of Wartwood, it does expand a bit in it's world building, introduces several important characters and it ends really, really well (the finale has some really shocking moments, including one of the sort that doesn't often appear in children's TV and definitely flips the status quo of the show. It's comedy isn't as consistent as, say, Gravity Falls or Star Vs. the Forces of Evil at it's best, but it's still reliable.

The first season of Blood of Zeus is okay. The animation is choppier than I would've liked and it kinda losses steam when the focus shifts away from the Greek gods. It still has enough promise for me to tune in next season.
