I probably own about 2,000 albums, and I would wager that about 80% of these I actually purchased - either a physical copy or a digital download.

Hmm. I think I've bought one album in the last four years...

Probably about 90-95% (out of 500 or so albums), but a good chunk of that was purchased from allofmp3.com, which is (or was) in a legal gray area. I stopped buying things there once I realized that they don't pay any royalties.

About half of it. I still spend the same amount on CD's that I always have (rough $50 a week), just my downloading has increased over the years.

I can't believe that place lasted as long is it did. I was always afraid to supply them with my CC info...seemed shady.

Great prices though!

$50 a week? .. Holy ...

Probably about 70% of mine is paid. I buy a new CD every week, but sometimes borrow music from friends and DL from blogs. I also had a Soulseeking period in the past.

When you DL something and you really like it, do you go out and buy the CD or a digital dl?

I probably do about 50% of the time. Maybe a little less.

I do find that, typically, the more I DL, the more I buy because I often research the bands I like and discover other bands along the way.

Hmm, I thought that would've been the norm for music buffs such as myself. Granted that's Australian money, so subtract 5-10 dollars from that for the US (if my memory of the exchange rate is up to snuff).

Challengers, anyone? :)

With some exceptions most of my music collection has been bought by me, or given to me as birthday/X-Mas presents. And no I don't download. All of the albums except for one (which I purchased) that I've reviewed in my CD thread have been rented from the library.

When I was Soulseeking, I would always do this. I would also go to a lot more concerts, and would buy the CDs there if I didn't have them already because the $$ goes more to the band.

About 85% have been purchased by me, with another 10% being me burning disks I've borrowed from other people, and the remaining 5% being holdovers from my napster days.

20% or something like that. I used to buy music left and right some years ago, but since I started working in the "music industry" I've been buying less and copying discs much more.

When I discover - (il)legal download, copy, borrow - something I really like, I'll buy it on cd or vinyl, but other than that I don't buy much music.

I suppose I buy a cd a month. Less sometimes.

I'd buy a lot more legal mp3's but my computer fucks up when downloading the DRM licenses, so I'm waiting for the Danish download services to stop using those altogether.
