Cool that you ended up seeing Apollo 11. It isn't playing anywhere near me.

It didn't come to Boston?! I'm shocked.

But yeah, it was incredible. One of the best movie-watching experiences I've ever had. The restoration job was immaculate, the music was tremendous, and it depicted the wonder, perils and triumph of the moon landing fifty years ago to a T.

It's in downtown Boston but I live in the burbs now and it's a pain to get to. I only venture to those theaters for 35 mm stuff.

While I see you rated "Grass" as warm, I'm curious how you rate this one in relation to his other films. Are you generally a fan?So far I've seen fourteen of his twenty-three features (nearly all of those from 2006-on). Some I think are brilliant, some diverting, and some leave me completely cold, including some of his most acclaimed films (Oh! Soo-jung, Right Now, Wrong Then; Night and Day has its fans). Lately it seems he's been on something of a roll, and Hotel by the River is conceivably his best work since Our Sunhi, even better--more disciplined and mysterious--to my mind than The Day After (which was pretty good).

Only 22 from 2019....According to my Letterbox'd page, I've seen 151 films this year (including repeat viewings), of which just two premiered in 2019 (Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood and Where'd You Go, Bernadette?; Letterbox'd lists Jessica Johnson's Hazel Isle as a 2019 film but it premiered at VIFF last fall).

So much great stuff this year but now I'm at the point of having been so spoiled by TIFF that my overstuffed festival brain now wants to re-watch so much from then, not just for enjoyment, but for end-of-year ranking clarification since it's now all the way back in September. In particular Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Parasite, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, and especially Uncut Gems which I'm now pretty sure I think is great and would thoroughly enjoy next time, but in the moment definitely hated its clutchingly anxious experience being my then-way-too-exhausted self (especially since it ran close to midnight), which just kinda proves its power even more since so few movies get me like that anymore.
