anyone else know about this? IMO it's better than the Da Vinci Code (the book)

I thought The Da Vinci Code was an alright popcorn book, just like the movie. Angels & Demons was just decent.

I don't expect much, but I'll watch it.

I haven't bothered reading this. The Da Vinci Code was so pedestrian I just don't care to try any other Brown book.

Love the books! I agree that Brown's writing is a little hackneyed at times, but their narratives, spine-tingling twists and turns and very cinematic flair have won me over. And Angels and Demons is indeed his best novel, but after Howard's The Da Vinci Code, I'm only a little interested at this point. The Delta Deception might make for a cooler movie.

An old rumour. I think it's Howard again.

What an odd choice to cast Scotsman McGregor as Italian Carlo Ventresca.

No Audrey Tautou means no interest from yours truly.

I heard Akiva Goldsman was paid $3 million to write the script. I would have done it for $100,000

I can't judge. For $3 million, sure, I'd squat over a stack of paper and shit out a turd, too. Money is money.

Well true. But if they would have done bidding, I would have undercut him so bad. But someone would have done it for $50,000 then.

I do it for free every morning. Except I flush mine, and his end up splattered on 8000 screens.

Looks interesting. And I say that after having been let down by the last film.

But I have not read the book. Did read The Da Vinci Code and I quite liked it. Really liked how it reminded people how much human compromise and politics went into the form of Christianity we have today. I like how it at least popularized the idea of alternate history regarding the religion.

The best thing about this movie will be a new Hans Zimmer score.

Angels and Demons was unputdownable. I loved it!

Any interest at all for this movie? The DaVinci Code was crushingly boring, but this appears to make amends, albeit to a limited extent.

I'm probably seeing it tonight.

I liked this book better than DaVinci Code, so I have a slight interest in it.

It's just fucking stupid. A lame-brained scavenger hunt with action following action, banal plot detail following banal plot detail. Oh, and the occasional obvious "religion vs. science" chitchat. Total nonsense. They're just using adult terms for child's play. I've had more of a mysterious, spiritual experience on a seven-year-old Easter Egg hunt.

Anyone that takes this material seriously is a moron.

LOL @ YOUR SCORE

Morris Schæffer

Well, I enjoyed it quite bit. It's easily superior to The DaVinci Code owing no doubt to its real time aspect as well as the countdown scenario. And the production values are just top notch, impressive all around considering they weren't allowed to film inside the Vatican. I strongly suspect that a far deeper science vs. religion movie can be fashioned, but I thought the movie had a few interesting morcels of info to share that elevate it a little above the usually loud and explosive summer blockbusters. But really, it's just a coolly constructed chase thriller regardless of how much of it is nonsense. It has a more original and clever story than Star Trek for instance. And it certainly beats the National Treasure movies and perhaps even Indy IV.

**½ or ***

I also enjoyed it and agree that it's much better than DaVinci Code (book and movie). Morris you hit the nail hard with the production quality and not being able to shoot at the Vatican. Some of those shots from above, circling the church and angel statues and even from inside St. Peter's and the Sistine Chapel are fucking incredible. I can't begin to fathom how much research they needed to do just to get those shots, and digitally compose them.

I read this book and have been to all four major sites in Rome, so this movie was not only a refresh of memories, but a great way to catch up on some history.

The nonsense hits hard at a certain point as Morris again mentions, and they did change a few things from the book to the movie, which are understandbale. Tom Hanks looks great too. He dropped a ton of weight and looks much younger.

Morris, this movie is by far bette than both National Treasure movies and Indy IV.

so yeah, it's better than the book.

comparison with CODE? that's tricky. CODE is a better book than ANGEL, and i think, this time howard and co. did a swell job. they fought an uphill battle and performed admirably.

one major improvement -- which comes from the book actually -- is how they resort on location. CODE is extremely meh location-wise, but ANGEL feels like a good crash course in rome touring.

If anything, this movie reminded me of how good of a trip Rome was. And the score was pretty good.

Otherwise, pretty silly. I just love how all the puzzles are solved and timed out so perfectly...

Ewan McGregor was the only one that put a little effort into this, and it shows. Tom Hanks is basically phoning it in.
