Mild yay. Here's my review. (http://www.foxforcefivenews.com/the-meg-has-a-decent-sized-but-disappointing-bite-review/)

Fuck this movie. (https://www.flickeringmyth.com/2018/08/the-meg-director-talks-gory-r-rated-cut-that-will-never-be-seen/)
Saw this in IMAX because it was the most convenient showtime that wasn't sold out, and A-List has no restrictions on premium screenings. So that was pretty cool.
As to the movie itself, it's no Shallows or 47 Meters Down, but it's still fine. I enjoyed it.
I really wish Rainn Wilson did a lot more movies, though. Great to see him here.

So cliched and ridiculously self-serious. A crashing bore from beginning to end.

TGM, can I call you out for a second? How can you shit on Hereditary for trying too hard, but then turn around and endorse this, the laziest most cliched personality-free bullshit ever conceived? I don’t get it.

Hereditary was actively obnoxious to me. This movie wasn't. It's not great, but there wasn't anything actively objectionable about it to me, either. It was a fine, fun ride, but I can understand if you weren't thrilled by it.

Yeah, I don’t get it. The Meg is one of the worst movies I’ve seen this year because it makes a conscious decision to be as benign and four-quadrants as possible, whereas Hereditary actually has a voice and a style and actual characters and the need for actual acting. I honestly find it difficult to understand giving this a pass. (As opposed to loving Hereditary, which is I grant is not easy.)

Maybe TGM just likes lazy, cliched, personality-free bullshit?
Jason Statham and Rainn Wilson brought plenty of their natural personality and charisma with them, so it's not entirely free of personality.

Based on its box office, it appears a lot of people do... :)
I feel no shame in enjoying this movie.

Sounds like a six pack special.

Can't believe how boring this was. Indefensibly light on shark action. Give me Deep Blue Sea any day.
I was shocked that they had multiple opportunities for the shark to eat a helicopter and they didn't take them, then I read the source material's synopsis on wikipedia and it happens there!

I loved this line: "it's already proven aggressive towards boats".

There are quite a few crazy scenes in the book that are not in the movie. A pity.
I saw this yesterday and will say the first 30 minutes are its strongest, there's some strong enough buildup with some really good production values. I would have loved to have seen more of the giant squid.

A crashing bore from beginning to end.
Yup. This movie made me sad.

I keep forgetting that I saw this.
Well, that was a complete and utter waste of time. Go watch Jaws, Jaws II, Deep Blue Sea, The Shallows, Open Water, The Reef, Jaws III, or Jaws: The Revenge instead of this complete bore.
Ok, maybe not Jaws: The Revenge, but damn, this movie was a waste of time. The only part that caught my attention was when the big one was introduced, and then the movie quickly lost my interest again.
