Decades I don't really like, but actors/actresses might not be a bad idea. It'll be one-sided I'm sure, but the results would be interesting.

I could go actors/actresses, if given enough time to really consider my opinions on that one. I'm not nearly as picky when it comes to performers.

Perhaps we could do an animated film one? I worry the scope might be a bit too narrow, but I think it could be fun. It would give me an excuse to beef up on the breadth of animation I take in.

I'd be willing to host one of these in the future.

Oh, go for it if it interests you. I don't have plans to do any large projects like that anytime soon, but I would certainly participate. For older mainstream films, perhaps being top 10 at the box office in a given year might make more sense than the $50 million I threw out there, but I will leave it to you to come up with the parameters. :)

For older mainstream films, perhaps being top 10 at the box office in a given year

I cannot find such a list. The-Numbers has an inflation adjusted list for anything over $100 million, but only for films released since 1977. Box Office Mojo has an all-time inflation adjusted list, but only a top 100.

I think at best maybe we could combine them so that way any very notable films released before 1977 would be included via the BoM list, meanwhile we could lower it to $100 million adjusted for qualifying films.

Though it is a flawed system, it seems absolutely necessary to use inflation adjusted numbers which is based on # of tickets sold as opposed to strictly money made. Otherwise, (almost) all the options would be from the last 25-30 years.

So just include the inflation adjusted ones also. I was just providing cannon fodder. Also the inflation adjusted ones are only domestic.

Perhaps my math is poor (it probably is) but adjusting for inflation for films released today seems to cut down final gross by about 50-60 percent. So if we're just doing over 100 million as worthy of inclusion then the 373 list where the lowest has 200 million could be included.

We're not really doing anything with the money end except creating a cut off for nominees.

The book I have has the top 10 of each year from 1953 to 2002, so I can provide lists for those years. It also has the top 10 of each decade.

Edit: the lists in my book don't seem to agree with those on that worldwideboxoffice site. Anyway, it seems like we should be able to put together a reasonable list of nominees.

Since you have the book I nominate you to do it. :)

But are we actually doing the top 10 for every year or just the ones that made over a certain amount of money (adjusted for inflation)?

I'd be interested in doing Match-cut's Top 50 Scores...if anyone is interested.

I'd be interested in seeing this, actually.
