KNIGHTS

http://www.fe-online.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/normal_blackknight.jpg

Being a knight must be awesome. It's the honor of kneeling in front of Her Royal Majesty given the rank of supreme badassery. Knights also get to carry huge swords and wear wicked army. Our modern society needs more knights fighting in Iraq.

BLACK HOLES

The concept of a black hole sucking up all life as we know it morbidly fascinates me. It's one of the many awesome wonders of our universe that will simply never be fully understood.

WHERE'S WALDO?

http://oncampus.richmond.edu/academics/education/projects/webunits/adaptations/images/maze07.jpg

A staple of my childhood. I would spend endless hours looking for Waldo, Wenda, Woof, Wizard Whitebeard, and his magic scroll. I even remembered the short-lived cartoon show. It sucked.

Gene Wilder was the man. Fuck Tim Burton and Johnny Depp for saying Wilder's Wonka wasn't "dark enough". The demonic boat ride still gives me the heebie jeebies. Anyone who says "we are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams" is awesome in my book.

I'm convinced that Buster Keaton is actually Batman. There is no way that this guy could put his body through all this physical torture over and over. He's a cinema legend and thousands of stuntmen owe their lives and career to Keaton.

THE WALK-OFF HOME RUN

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h72/latrs/611b.jpg

Arguably the greatest finish to a professional sports game (the hail mary pass is close second). If executed against you, it's one of the worst feelings in the world. However, if the winning shot is on your side, it's the happiest moment of your life. The eruption of screaming, the batter striking a pose, and the dogpile at home plate makes for one incredible experience.

The best ever:
FLCL
Coffee
Freaks and Geeks
The Internet

The worst ever:
StickyKeys (it was a phase I was going through at work)
Wal-Mart (but let's not start that again)
The Holocaust
"Younglings"

Runners up for best ever: The Office (UK), Kill Bill, Coca-Cola, Al Gore's beard
Runners up for worst ever: The MPAA, war and other serious shit, shows getting prematurely cancelled

The list would look different today. But I just thought I'd share.

It doesn't matter if he was fighting Mothra, King Kong, Mechagodzilla, or Matthew Broderick, we all know Godzilla was a motherfucking pimp. Even his 1998 Emmerich treatment was good in that "oh my god, what the hell is this" kind of way. There has been several imitators, but none have matched up with the G-Man himself.

CHEERLEADERS

I was in St. Louis over the weekend, and there was some kind of cheerleading contest going on. The contestants seemed to be around 12 years old, posted glittery signs on their hotel room doors, and walked around incessantly giggling and screeching. It was unpleasant to say the least. However, it did combine cheerleaders and slumber parties, so you might have enjoyed it.

While Michaelangelo was using nunchukas, Raphael had Sai and Leonardo used Katana, Donatello beat the crap out of people using a BIG STICK.

Raphael was best because he cussed and killed the most, and drank the most beer. I quit caring about the turtles when they quit cussing, killing, and drinking beer.

I'm sorry, but for anyone over the age of 12 the correct answer to "What is your favorite Ninja Turtle?" is "I don't have one."
All of our declarations have been safely been constructed in the paste tense. :|

THE DARK PHOENIX SAGA

http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/9770/xmenep41wy1.jpg

The Dark Phoenix Saga is one of the best comic storylines ever. It's a massive run of turmoil, betrayal, and tragedy featuring a magnum opus of a cast. Ratner should be forced to drink hot lava out of a straw for bastardizing the source material. Only the animated series got the core and visual dominance of the Phoenix's arc correct.

UNDERDOGS

Anyone who isn't a Boston/New York native loves underdogs. We always cheer for the small market teams who can't cough up the dough to sign a huge free agent in the offseason. Just this year alone, we've had several underdog proving the critics wrong: Golden State, Colorado, and now Detroit. Wouldn't it be awesome, if the Lions made the Super Bowl and BEAT the Patriots?

CAMPFIRES

http://www.geocities.com/mawlapune/Tikona/campfire.jpg

While I am a closeted individual, I do enjoy the outdoors on certain occasions. Building a campfire is one of history's national pastimes. A bunch of friends sitting together glowing as one under the flames of destiny telling ghost stories and roasting pinecones... Ah, to be drenched in the smell of hot ash. Gotta love it.

Despite the flood of memories this is all bringing, I imagine that things like truth, beauty, and justice will be supplanted in favor of a line of dialogue from The Prince of Egypt, improvised marshmallow smores, and something "Duck Hunt"-related. Not a knock, though, I'm diggin' the list so far.

I went for Splinter as my favorite character from the Ninja Turtles. Now? I guess Raphael, because sais are uncommon, and could provide for some unique kills.

Never cared for Goosebumps as a kid. Every chapter would end with a "cliffhanger" and then be a fake in the first three lines. I read a lot of the first volumes though. Did R.L. Stein really pump all those out? I, like sychophant, was also a Boxcar Children fan, but now I know nothing about them.

Underdogs rock. You should've mentioned the NCAA Tourney, and the joy of seeing a #15 seed win.

SUPERMAN

http://www.jaypinkerton.com/superman1.jpg

A lot of people complain about how Superman is a "boring" superhero because he is invincible to practically everything. I would say that this makes him more interesting than the dozens of superheroes that could have been on the list because he isn't fighting simply because a gangster killed his mommy and daddy in the alley one cold dark night. No, he fights because it is who he was born to be. His greatest strength is also his weakness, and he also starred in the better movie (take that Batman!).

MIDNIGHT SHOWS

http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/050518/050518_starwars_hmed_10p.h2.jp g

The midnight experience is like no other. There is a reason why the latest Tsai Ming-liang film doesn't get the midnight madness treatment. Films like Star Wars, LOTR, Harry Potter, and the recent Spiderman/Batman/Superman comic book adaptation were made to be viewed solely at midnight. All the cosplaying, the huge claustrophobic rampage of nerdom, and of course all in the in-movie comments are some of the more memorable moments of my young life.
