Man, Dumont really broke out the weird stick. And then proceeded to smack Juliette Binoche upside the head with it.

True story.

I went in expecting comedic insanity in the vein of Monty Python after the excellent trailer, so the atmospheric tone and absurdist humor at play here kind of clashed at first for me, but the more it went on, the more I adjusted and got intrigued by. It also boasts some of the most gorgeous cinematography of the year so far; every shot looks like something out of a Salvador Dali painting. Plus the acting is great and so many of the subtle details had me rolling (especially the obese investigator stretching and Christian creaking with every move). It's weird in the best way possible, and definitely something I would watch again. It's a very unique movie.

EDIT: I should mention this is my first Dumont film. Is this the most surreal film he's directed?

Of the ones I've seen, I would say Yes. And it's cut from the same surreal cloth as it's predecessor, Li'l Quinquin, rudimentarily referred to by some critics as a French Twin Peaks.

It's fabulous and I'm pretty sure you'd love it.

I've heard nothing but great things about Li'l Quinquin! I'll be sure to find it soon.
