This film is glorious. A new favorite. There are things I can criticize. The resolution of the plot is a bit rushed. There could be more of a developed relationship between Silver and her lover. But none of that changes the fact that I've never seen anything quite like this movie and I adore it. Two beautiful mermaids (which the film conflates with sirens) are discovered and immediately put into a sexy nightclub act. One of them is sweet. One of them has more of a mean streak. It's a musical.

Anyway, the film isn't really about the plot. It's about the atmosphere and the music and the visual creativity and the energy and Marta Mazurek's face. A lot of it is about her unusual, but alluring face.

It's going to be called a cult classic, but whatever. It's just a super fun, hypnotic movie. I wish I had caught it in the theater, but it only played here for a week.

My favorite film of the year so far is getting a Criterion release (https://www.criterion.com/films/29061-the-lure). Hopefully, more people will be able to check it out.

This is so wacky and great that I wont be surprised if it gets an Eng. remake.
I too wish I had been able to see it in a theater but I truly had no option to do so.
Awesome balance of mer-lore/fantasy and music.

Yeah, I actually found it by chance just randomly browsing the Criterion section that was marked half off at Barnes & Noble today. Picked this up along with Blue is the Warmest Color and Certain Women.

Anyways, just finished watching this one, and yeah, this was certainly weird and certainly different, but in a really good way. I can definitely agree with what Zac Efron says about not being surprised if this were to get an English remake, as I was thinking that all throughout. The style of music and general style of the movie also gave me a big anime vibe at several moments as well, which I really dug about it.
