And I sorta liked Edmond. It's the least of Gordon's unofficial "urban nightmare" trilogy (with Stuck at the top and King of the Ants in the middle), that's for sure.

Interested to read your thoughts on 8½ (I'm very mixed). The Best Years of our Lives is such a masterpiece though; even as a restless 13-14 teen I was very absorbed throughout its long running time. Really need to see it again one of these days.

I thought I wrote something on it, but checking back when I watched and gave it 6/10 on October 2015, apparently I haven't. Only a reference to it when I watched All That Jazz a month later: "Sprawling and messy, but also an absolutely electrifying self-portrait that sucks me into its world in the way that 8 1/2 can't." Thinking back after so long, that's probably about it. Very creative in its visual expression of Fellini's self, but the way it progresses just keep pushing me out.

Yeah, Life of Brian is an improvement in most ways, although I have a weakness for Holy Grail, it being my first exposure to the Pythons - the Lancelot sequences are as good as any comedy I've ever seen. "I'm sorry, I just get carried away."

I have totally given up on Z-grade exploitation/so-bad-they're-good cult movies because I find watching them a total chore.

I was floored by Distance, and I'd love to hear from anybody else who has seen it re: the ending, and the events surrounding Atsushi. There's a lot to unpack there, and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it (or even how to interpret it, really). Regardless, I wish Koreeda was still making movies like this. After Life and Distance is an incredible one-two punch.

Dope was really great. After living in NYC I have a minor obsession with inner city life and found this an amazing expression.

Dope is awesome. Straight out of the '90s indie movement. Reminded me a lot of Gravesend, a film that doesn't get enough praise.

Gravesend is a more serious take on an inner-city youth story. It has some funny parts, but it's much darker.

Whole thing is on Youtube.
