Hotel (Jessica Hausner, 2004)

It's not the best, but it's my favorite.

I'd gun for Pulse, but Let the Right One In and The Descent and Rec and Kill List would be nippin' at its heels. And Shaun of the Dead too.

Pulse, Tale of Two Sisters, House of the Devil, Grave Encounters, lots of options.

Great list. Except for You're Next which I did not like.

I'd throw House of the Devil in there. Transsiberian (2008), The Machinist (2004), Session 9 (2011), I Saw the Devil (2010), Trigger Man (2007) and The Innkeepers (2011).

Horror in this century has been the shit. South Korea alone can probably fill in my top ten.

Just this year, there was The Wailing, which was fucking incredible.

Have you seen Bedeviled (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedevilled_(2010_film))?

If not, do. It's my favorite Korean horror outside of Memento Mori (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memento_Mori_(film)).

Only seen Session 9 and I Saw the Devil out of those. They were good.

I'll have to be on the lookout for The Wailing.

Off the top of my head, The Descent and/or The Strangers.

I can't make a list but for me it's Planet Terror of course. Session 9, Proxy, May, and Habit would be up there.

I think of Let the Right One In, but it's more of a drama.

I think of May, but it's more of a dark comedy.

I think of Pulse, but it's more of an existential gloom piece.

I think of Antichrist, but it's all of the above.

So, probably The Descent.

I think Habit is '96 or '97, but yeah, excellent flick.

Nice. I've seen all four of those and liked them all (I have no idea why Pieta became the punching bag of TIFF 2012, leading to this ridiculous article (http://cinema-scope.com/cinema-scope-online/tiff-day-10-pieta-x/) that did nothing but confirm that modern criticism is a hive mind), though I think Lady Vengeance is the weakest of the trilogy.
