I actually quite liked this one. Great performances all around, especially loved Aaron Paul and Alan Rickman in this one, the latter of whom got a classy dedication at the end. And it was also nice to see Barkhad Abdi again. Don't think I've seen him in anything since Captain Phillips, so it's nice to see that he's, in fact, still getting work. But yeah, I loved the complex debates at hand, and how tense and, frankly, emotional the entire scenario winds up getting as it continues to play out. Even members of my audience were yelling at the screen in frustration (a good kind of frustration, mind you), so they were definitely invested in the on-goings. So yeah, I was pretty impressed with this one.

Huge yay! I kept thinking the Paul character and his female colleague were a bit too emotional since I expect these folks to be pretty detached, but that's not even issue, more of an observation.

I think Rickman's last line and his delivery was probably the best of the movie. It's not because one sits in a chair and presses a few buttons that said person doesn't care about what is actually going on.

It's a really tense movie which, oddly enough, mimics Captain America: Civil War as per its tagline, but is so much more engaging because it's actually about people debating rather than simply gearing up and unleashing chaos on each other. With the Marvel behemoth I was like "Oh who cares why they're fighting, this is simply kickass to watch!" whereas during this drone thriller I was uneasily shifting in my seat, actively pondering which side I'd be on.

Man, this was brutal. I always like a story centered on a moral conundrum, and this presented a terrible, gutwrenching one. I think it whitewashes the drone issue to a large extent, but still...brutal. Captivating and brutal.

Maybe he was based on this guy, who also joined the air force to pay for his education: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8DKaIRL5U0
