Trailer (http://media.movies.ign.com/media/730/730512/vids_1.html) for the new Tarsem Singh film. Looks pretty good. I liked The Cell just on the strength of the visuals, this one looks just as interesting. Made in 2006, shot in locations around the world (26 countries, I've heard), premiered at last year's TIFF, but had trouble finding a distributor until just recently. Premiering March 2008 in the US.

Mods: if there's already a thread for this, please merge. thx

Shocked that Ebert liked it. Truly.

Looks like fun.

I was hoping this had something to do with Camus.

Yeah, I definitely think a more fantasy-based approach, sort of Baron Munchausen-y, serves Tarsem's sensibilities much more so than the burdens of a serial killer narrative.

I agree.

If anything, it will be amazing looking.

Reminds me of a mix between The Cell, The Promise, and Re-Cycle.

This looks cool.

Also, I just found out Tarsem is attached to direct a film adaptation of Condemned: Criminal Origins. WTF.

Ugh. Here's hoping this is much better than The Promise. At least the stateside version.

This does look fantastic. A follow up to The Cell has been way too long in coming. I had heard he was doing a version of Hamlet. Doesn't look like this is it though.

Hmm, new?

I saw this last year at the Sitges festival. As opposed to what I was expecting, since The Cell didn't do much for me, I found it to be very enjoyable - it is a wonderful fable about the necessity of storytelling (and in its defect, filmmaking), that I'm sure will be tiring for some, yet poignant for others.

Only in the sense that it's just now going into limited release here in the States. I'm not sure but I think it's already had theatrical runs overseas, but wasn't able to secure domestic distribution until recently. I also heard it won top prize at the Sitges festival. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it. That trailer really has me excited to see this one, tho I'll probably have to wait for the DVD release.

What did you think of the young actress? I've been hearing good things about her.
