So this was pretty damn good. I thought the book was eh, and coming off of the similarly meh The Fault in our Stars (both the book and the movie), I was sorta expecting more of the same here. But while this is mostly faithful to the source material, I actually think it's overall an improvement on the book, and is far more moving and effective as a result. Good stuff.

I was disappointed considering the talent of the writing duo behind this. A great soundtrack and score couldn't save it from a wooden supporting cast, plus there aren't a lot of stakes in the mystery, and there's something about the main character and his friends that just fell flat for me, and Cara Delevingne was a positive for me, and she doesn't have a lot of screen time. Then again I’m not this movie’s target audience. . .still, there’s something that The Fault in Our Stars and The Spectacular Now had that this movie doesn’t, and it’s less engaging as a result for me.

I found this very enjoyable and reminiscent of the best of John Hughes' pictures. Nat Wolff was great as the lead - although this is a movie about teenagers, it doesn't necessarily feel like a teens-only picture. And yeah, the soundtrack/score was great. The Fault in Our Stars was meh compared to this.
