The director's cut is pretty good, even though the DVD I got didn't have subtitles for the French dialogue. It's probably the most focused and disciplined movie Ferrara's made in a while, but I wouldn't call it one of his best. As a speculative account of the Strauss-Khan affair, it's pretty convincing, but it lacks the wild, all over the place of energy of some of Ferrara's better pictures (The Funeral, Mary). I'm reminded of a line from Ebert's review of Insignificance: "[The film] begins by imagining these [events], and ends by having created them."
