I liked it a lot. Most of the reviews are saying the emotions aren't really there, which is par for the course for such movies, but what if the emotions are of a different kind? Like being in awe of mother nature's power? The set pieces are huuuuuuge, the FX keep up, and I was just eagerly awaiting the next tremor. Does this out-Emmerich the German annihilation expert? It's actually a darn close call.

How does it compare to 2012?

I actually enjoyed that a lot also, but had some stupid moments such as that Russian dude and his twin sons, such as Loony Woody Harrelson (which isn't entirely bad I suppose) and San Andreas plays it more straight, like Day After Tomorrow. I suspect most on Match Cut will not like this movie at all, but I had a lot of fun with it. And there isn't a single scene where a dog manages a narrow escape. I'll give it that too. Daddario > Amanda Peet. God the former is stunning, I'm really blown away by her and I've freakin' seen True Detective.

I just started to think about the tsunami sequence and how much of a difference it makes when the trailers don't show everything. There's some unexpected stuff happening when you least expect it.

She was horrible in everything I've seen her in besides True Detective (White Collar, Percy Jackson), blue eyes and big boobs and all.
Peet is not much of an actress either, but she at least has Daddario beat.

Couldn't get my eyes away from her and yes, the eyes and boobs play a role in that. Do i think she's a potential future oscar winner? I guess i don't see it, but she still commands my attention. Which perhaps makes her like a female schwarzenegger. You can't say the acting's great but she holds her own, she's up on that screen, the presence is unmistakable and she won't be denied. :)

It sure is. This was quite the spectacle of a disaster movie. Probably the best special effects I've ever seen. The Golden Gate Bridge scene was shockingly morbid with the people still on the bridge as where the shots underwater after the tsunami. But yeh, For disaster movies this one is up there with the best. Some excellent one shots during the Earthquake scenes particularity the one with the Rock's ex-wife making her way up to the roof. (That rescue scene is phenomenal btw)

I just watched this. It's pretty much GTA: Disaster Zone as the Rock has to procure a variety of vehicles - helicopter, SUV, plane, boat! - in order to achieve a mission. Poor special effects, poor acting, a hollow script (what exactly was the point of the superrich new boyfriend character if that was all you were going to do with him?), pretty much a waste of time.

For some reason I can't quote automatically any more, but:

Oh, she can be denied. She was terrible in this.
