I saw this movie mentioned on some non-movie-related websites I frequent. I think the real story is more interesting/important than the movie, which feels like a made-for-TV movie. But it's watchable.

I thought this was glossier than your typical TV movie, but Isaac's essentially right. The entire film skims along the surface & doesn't really get to the heart of thing any more than a 10,000 word magazine profile or a sixty minute Frontline documentary. In many ways, it's more superficial.

Still, it's a crazy story & worth watching for that alone.

The "made for HBO" angle is exactly what I thought too. It's OK, but the watchability is entirely based on my interest in this case and being a sucker for just about any movie about journalism. I thought it was interesting that they didn't even deal with his death at all, since there has been (of course) loads of conspiracies re: his suicide being a "suicide."

Jeremy Renner makes a good schlubby reporter.

Yeah, the real story is compelling as all fuck. The movie is something that we've all seen before but also not bad. Jeremy Renner is truly excellent in this.
