No, he knows. I read an interview a few years ago where he's asked about it and he said it doesn't bug him at all what critics and internet people are saying about him, because the big success of his movies worldwide tells him that the people that matter are liking his movies. He specifically cited how Armageddon broke all kinds of records in Japan.

I'm sure he's gotten even more confident after Transformers.

I think it's more that Michael Bay knows that he's giving a specific audience exactly what it wants in a way that it wants it.

His movies are successful and critic-proof. He gets $200 million for a movie. I wouldn't see that as a bad thing either. Plus, his movies still win Oscars.

Exactly. He WANTS to make movies for the masses. He wants his movies to be popular. If critics say they're crap, but millions of people love them... Well, he's perfectly fine with that.
