I read an interview a few years ago where he's asked about it and he said it doesn't bug him at all what critics and internet people are saying about him, because the big success of his movies worldwide tells him that the people that matter are liking his movies. He specifically cited how Armageddon broke all kinds of records in Japan.

I'm sure he's gotten even more confident after Transformers.
