Best gritty crime films?

Having just watched The Friends of Eddie Coyle and The Hit, I need more. Things like Across 110th Street, The French Connection II, Charlie Varrick. Recommendations are very much welcome. I still have seven weeks of vacation.

Are these sorts of films still being made these days? Killing Them Softly would be one, I guess.

Mike Hodges kinda sorta remade Get Carter thirty years later with I'll Sleep When I'm Dead (2003).

More recently: After Dark, My Sweet (1990), Red Rock West (1993), Flesh and Bone (1993), Cold Comes the Night (2013), Cold in July (2013), and We Gotta Get Out of This Place (2014).
