I cherish and have made such good use of the Life Aquatic DVD that Criterion put out with the initial release a decade ago, I'm not sure I even feel the need for the upgrade, if only for those sentimental reasons.

Sleepaway Camp on the other hand... How's that remaster?

EDIT: I've shared and rewatched that Sleepaway Camp Trilogy so much over the years, but I'm sure the DVD transfers look as suitably dingy as the movies. These new Blu-ray screencaps are freaking me out, they look so insanely pristine.

Cheap Thrills is a good one, I recommend it. And that Death Spa cover is boss.

I would really like to get the Red River Criterion and Mario Kart 8.

Will Mario Kart 8 be the thing that actually pushes people to get Wii U?

I just don't personally know anyone that has it (aside from one relative who mainly bought it because he has young kids). It's a fun thing to toy around with, a lot the mini-games developed for Nintendoland are super fun, and the novelty of the screen controller still doesn't feel like it's been mined for its full potential, but I just don't know how it wouldn't be my third choice of the new generation of systems. Sure it's more unique than directly comparing Xbox One to PS4, but it feels so much less essential.

But at the same time, I know very few houses that don't have the Mario Kart Wii controller holder still lying around. That must've been the best seller for the original Wii that wasn't the mini-games discs included with it, right?

We very well may see the WiiU stop production in the next 6-12 months.

While the Wii U is definitely performing rather poorly in terms of sales, I don't think this is going to happen within the next 6-12 months.

Guys, it's selling worse than the dreamcast. Nothing is silly.

Sega was in dire straits when the Dreamcast was selling badly. Nintendo still has boat loads of money. They have enough money to run the same deficit they had this year for the next 38 years before they run out of money. Sony has the best selling system and is financially doing worse than any of the other 2 system manufacturers.

That's kinda the same argument fans made about Apple back in the day ... Right before they almost went out of business.

Sony has the best selling system and is financially doing worse than any of the other 2 system manufacturers.

Sony strikes me as a consumer electronics and media company first, a console manufacturer second. Out of the big three consolers, they're the only one well diversified into other businesses. But The Internet and Apple hurt their bottom line across the board. And let's face it: There's no way the XBox would have survived past first gen if MSFT hadn't heavily supported that business from their OS monopoly. They probably wouldn't have made it past the first two years of the console.

Nintendo is in a weird position because, afaik, they don't do anything besides games. Their strategy right now seems to be to double down on their own hardware. They're ignoring the explosion in the mobile gaming and kinda missed the boat on multiplayer. Not having Zelda or Mario on iOS or Android seems terribly short sighted.

I don't know if Duke's prediction will pan out, because it'd be pretty shocking. Nintendo would be more or less just another software developer and publisher (albeit one with great IP). But it sure feels like they've got to do something and do it soon.

Stephen Chow's Journey to the West is very funny. The opening scene is incredible.

And all their other businesses are failing miserably. The games division is the only thing keeping them afloat.

Yeah. Very unique take on the story. The lead's performance is a poor man's Chow, though.

Journey to the West actually opens in Toronto this weekend, so I'll wait to catch it on the big screen (a nice surprise, as I figured I wasn't going to get the opportunity).

Nintendo has more than one great IP, of course... I don't know what your personal criteria for "great" are, but the following are typically well received and held in high regard by fans: the 2D and (superior) 3D Mario platformers (we still haven't received the true successor to the excellent Mario Galaxy titles), Pikmin, Smash Bros., Mario Kart, Metroid, Donkey Kong Country and, of course, Zelda. Zelda is also one of the main reasons I'm still enthusiastic about the hardware; I'm fairly certain that the next instalment is going to be unveiled at this year's E3 (and it will be, based on Aonuma's comments, dramatically different from previous titles: open world, non-linear, etc.).

It's too bad they're not attending this year again. Their live streams are fine but attendance really draws the WOW factor.

Well, it certainly means there won't be anything resembling the very memorable reaction to the unveiling of Twilight Princess:

The transfer is outstanding, apparently.
