Pleasantly surprised by this film. Instead of carrying the melodramatic punch that would seem unavoidable on an Argentine production of this subject matter (family living in Bariloche discover the town doctor is none other than Josef Mengele) it's a genuinely involving thriller with great script and direction values. I really like that LucÃ*a Puenzo has no qualms about moving the camera - so much Argentine cinema seems afraid of doing even the simplest camera movement.

Puenzo doesn't really delve into the political reasons that allowed Nazi criminals to enter Argentina, but that's a subject matter for a different film. This one is a tense coming-of-age story influenced by such themes as genetical manipulation and evolutionary fascism.
