I guess the obvious ones are The Shop Around the Corner, Meet Me in St. Louis, and The Apartment, though I guess you could argue that none of those are, strictly speaking, "Christmas Movies" (at least not in the sense that Miracle on 34th Street is a Christmas Movie), but movies that happen to have climatic scenes set around Christmas time (something that also goes for It's a Wonderful Life). Two slightly less obvious choices are Doug Liman's Go and Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut.

I'll still stick with It's A Wonderful Life myself. Wonderful movie, and enjoy watching it every year.

I love White Christmas. <3
Sisters....Sisters....There were never such devoted sisters.
Never had to have a chaperone, no sir!
I'm here to keep my eye on her.
Caring....sharing....Every little thing that we are wearing.
When a certain gentleman arrived from Rome,
She wore the dress, and I stayed home!
All kinds of weather, we stick together, the same in the rain or sun.
Two different faces, but in tight places, we think and we act as one!
Ahem...
(sorry. i really meant to stop after 3 lines.)

obvious:
A Charlie Brown Christmas
It's A Wonderful Life
A Christmas Story
Die Hard
less obvious:
Eyes Wide Shut
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1986)
Gremlins
Raiders

Perhaps a good case of being able to actually separate "best" from "favorite"... National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Being able to quote it at will is a family tradition.

It's Christmas Vacation for me.
And I'm surprised MC would love a movie as racist as A Christmas Story when we give the same criticism towards Michael Bay movies.
I'm interested in the defense of that movie.

Turns out I must not like Christmas movies. The only thing that I even remembered that was both a movie I would call a favorite, and a Christmas movie was Gremlins, unless you want to count The Life of Brian as a Christmas movie.

I don't think A Christmas Story has been analyzed enough to get to that type of commentary though. I know there's some dissenters, and I call them crazy.

Tokyo Godfathers
While You Were Sleeping
A Christmas Story
White Christmas
A Muppet Christmas Carol
Bad Santa
A Charlie Brown Christmas
I don't really do the annual holiday viewing that I used to. Except A Charlie Brown Christmas, which I've only missed a few times. I tend to watch more half-hour Christmas specials or TV episodes (which ACBC is, of course), like How the Grinch Stole Christmas or a handful of great Christmas South Park or NewsRadio episodes.

I like Wats' choice. Mostly because its funny, but also because of the picture he spoilered.
Anyways my pick is Jingle All The Way, which I viewed last night for only the second time ever on Instant Viewing. I first saw it in theaters.

Oh and if A Christmas Story is racist because of one scene (which btw that scene is really funny and actually touching) then many, many films are racist.

Silent Night, Deadly Night.
NAUGHTY!! NAUGHTY!! I love Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2, personally. It is literally the best sort of bad. Plus, they replay huge chunks of the first film, so it's like two Christmas specials for the price of one.

Just because something features christmas in it doesn't make it a christmas movie. Eyes Wide Shut is in my top ten of all time but it is not a christmas movie.

Haven't seen EWS but I'm pretty sure that if you don't have Christmas in your title, the only thing that can qualify you as a Christmas movie is a non-diegetic Christmas song.

It's a Wonderful Life and The Shop Around the Corner are my two classic favorites. Also love National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation for the same reason Raiders mentioned. Those are the three I try to watch every year. A Christmas Story is one I've come to enjoy, but I wouldn't call it a favorite. My wife loves White Christmas. I find something else to do while she's watching that one.

I'm sure you've probably given it a fair shot, but on the off-chance you haven't, I'd recommend White Christmas without much reservation. The filmmaking/ level of craft is real solid, as you'd expect from the guy who directed Casablanca. That said, some of my enjoyment is ingrained from fond childhood memories.

Late to the thread, but for some reason, I really get a hankering for some old school sci-fi around this time of the year. It's become sort of a tradition to, after the girls are in bed, head downstairs and pop in either Forbidden Planet, Bladerunner, or The Black Hole while I wrap presents.
As for more traditional fare, A Christmas Story will always have a place in my heart (saw that first run in the theatres as a kid), but I also try to watch Christmas Vacation every year, if nothing else than to marvel how every year I become more and more like Clark Griswold. I also count Elf as a fave, and would like to add Love, Actually to the list.

Is The Lion in Winter a Christmas movie? 'Cause if so...
If not, It's a Wonderful Life.
Rewatched a few of the old short Christmas films with my niece this year... The Year Without a Santa Claus is deeply silly, apart from the awesome Heat Miser and Snow Miser. Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer was still a lot of fun, though my sister casually pointed out the weird level of sexism in the show and then I had trouble forgetting it again. A Charlie Brown Christmas is slighter than I remembered but the music is top notch and the few emotional beats (Linus' soliloquy and the decoration of the tree) are still pretty effecting.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas is perfect. Honestly, I can't think of a thing that could be better. The music, the words, the animation, me totally crying at the end when CHRISTMAS TOTALLY COMES ANYWAY, GUYS, SERIOUSLY, BECAUSE CHRISTMAS MEANS A LITTLE BIT MORE.

At the time of your posting Christmas Story had been brought up by one person. I don't like A Christmas Story but I didn't want to muddle a thread about everyone's favorite movies with why I don't like a particular Christmas movie. :)
Die Hard is my favorite Christmas movie and so far the only Christmas movie I've watched this month.
