So I thought this was an interesting experiment from last year, and I want to see if I hold myself to it more throughout the year. While I let spontaneity direct my reading tastes, these are the books that I'd like to finish, if everything goes right.

1. David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest
2. J.D. Salinger's Nine Stories
3. Philip Roth's The Human Stain
4. Zadie Smith's On Beauty
5. Julian Barnes's The Sense of an Ending
6. John Kennedy Toole's A Confederacy of Dunces
7. Craig Thompson's Habibi
8. Herman Meville's Moby Dick
9. Younghill Kang's East Goes West: The Making of an Oriental Yankee
10. Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace

After reading nothing but 1000 page books this year I am ready for some short ones:

The Art of War - Sun Tzu
Bleeding Edge - Thomas Pynchon
Dusk and Other Stories - James Salter
The Silent Cry - Kenzaburo Oe
The Maltese Falcon - Dashiell Hammett

I also plan on reading some books on financial literacy, in particular those dealing with the fixed income market. I am trying to treat my finances and investments like a second job. Lots to learn.

Just an aside - do people really care what year a book was published?

Just an aside - do people really care what year a book was published?Maybe it's not necessary to know the exact year when a book was published, but knowing that Gravity's Rainbow was published in the early '70s (as opposed to 1945-46, when the action is principally set) helps one to situate the novel historically.

I like to know - helps me contextual the political and social context it was written in. This is especially true for science fiction which is highly concerned with those things.
