I think it'd make money. Hurwitz's pilot apparently didn't get picked up last season and so a sure thing could really help out. It could happen.

I worry whether it would be good.

It would be a weird transition from TV to film. The show is so specifically a deconstruction of television conventions. Not sure how they would swing that. But whatever ... could be fun.

Yeah, it would be a very bizarre transition, but I'd welcome any chance at more AD.

I hope Judd Apatow and his crew aren't invited to participate.

I wonder if the movie would take the attempt at deconstructing movies since the show obviously went after the television programming. It COULD work, but I just don't see it happening really.

Yeah, that would be like..making a Strangers With Candy flick.

Strangers with Candy is the most misunderstood and brilliant show EVER on television. Haven't seen the movie.

I dunno. I loved 40 year old Virgin back on the day, but today, I'm totally against Judd Apatow. The man's become a fucking formula.

Pretty impressive for a director who's made two films in the last 2.5 years.

If the film was simply a continuation of where the TV series left off, I might approve. Otherwise, it's going to be a bunch of recycled jokes and plot lines. Don't spoil what we already have.

What does Judd Apatow have to do with Arrested Development? He wasn't involved with the series.

I thought the ATHF movie was more anarchic than deconstructive.

I thought the ATHF movie was more anarchic than deconstructive.Agreed. But it's very mindful of movie conventions while indulging in its anarchy. Much like the show does with television conventions.

Michael Cera.

There's actually quite a lot of crossover when you look at both cliques.

Freaks & Geeks collaborator Paul Feig directed a lot of Arrested Development episodes, especially toward the end. Jay Chandrasekhar worked on both AD and Undeclared. Victor Hsu produced both of Apatow's shows and AD. It seems to me there was some other crossover, too. They also largely appeal to a similar audience and considering the popularity/bankability of Apatow's crew lately, I wouldn't be surprised to see Fox or even Hurwitz himself attempt to work with them.

I've never been in love with AD. If it weren't for the Bateman character who grounds everything into something approaching reality, I might have abandonded the show after the first season. Every person seems weirder/quirkier than the next and perhaps that's not my cup of tea. I feel no need whatsoever to watch season three.

Could you explain this to me Ezee? This never occured to me when I saw season one, but I'm sure what you claim is there. Is it the absence of a laugh track?

[Judd Apatow] wasn't involved with the series.

And I want it to stay that way.

Apatow's lost it since Freaks and Geeks.

I have to say, if this is real... Michael... you're breaking my heart.

Things are shaping up as I suspected: the stars of Arrested Development are now deconstructing the idea of TV-series-to-movie publicity.

Remember when Jeffrey Tambor and Jason Bateman were joking about it on late-night talk shows? It was just around the time the Sex and the City movie was being released.

If the movie comes to fruition, it must include a certain character...

Hm.

He said the same thing on Craig Ferguson about 6 months back, and in that time Cera came forward and said nothing is going on and he's not even sure he'd do it if it was. I'll hold my excitement for an official announcement.
