The best straight to DVD movie I've seen since... Equilibrium.
It's post-apocalyptic, but don't roll your eyes at the setting. This is a wonderfully crafted low budget dystopian thriller with some good talent holding the story together. In the future, mankind has built weather machines and everything is great, until they break down and it starts to snow and never stops. Now, there are underground colonies scattered across the land and like any post-apocalyptic camp, the colonies take percussions when it comes to things like, disease and “infection”.
What I love about this movie, without giving too much away, is how it intentionally deceives the audience. It does make you roll your eyes at some cliché post-apocalyptic behavior and attitude, and then immediately retracts it when it surprises you. The weakest part of the movie is the closing act and climax. There was little thought into wrapping up the story there, but that’s OK. It’s the journey of what makes a thriller thrilling.
This will be joining my collection and will probably sit it next to the Divide.

Equilibrium was not straight to dvd. It had a limited release like a ton of other movies.

It was in like 100 theaters. That's straight to DVD for me.

Another case of bullshit Duke logic created to keep from admitting he's ever wrong.

Wow, really? I dug Equilibrium (Gun KATA!) for what it was. I thought to give The Colony a pass because the reviews have been mediocre, but I'm keeping an eye out now.

So is this like a monster movie? Or a zombie flick? Or just a contagion movie?
I can't quite tell from the trailers what's goin' on.
At any rate, it's on my radar now Duke. Thanks!

I'd rather not say. Unless you really really want to know, and I will PM you. You'll definitely have guesses as the movie progresses.
