Edit 5: Yes, gameplay footage time. action adventure RPG, where you can play solo or coop. Seamlessly loading of open universe. Ubisoft is offering fans to submit their artwork and ideas for the game.

JGL just walked out on stage. Apparently he founded a company that helps submit and store content for art and collaborate . Called 'Hit Record'

(I can't remember: Does Ubisoft have a shit reputation or not? I vaguely recall them doing something dodgy with DRM and online play some years back...)

Here's their sketchy history:

They had DRM on everything, that made you have a constant connection to the internet. Driver: San Fran was the game that got the most shit because of it.

They tried to fix it with one of the Anno games, by making you activate it once. But if you changed video cards it made you activate it again. (up to 4 activations- which obviously would piss off gamers)

They finally acknowledged how shitty it was back in 2012, and since, basically made uPlay run in the background (like steam) that verifies purchases. It's been smooth sailing since.

They did something with the The Crew, which caused it to be delayed for months, but also had an impact on gameplay.

Then they also had a bad Assassins Creed Rogue launch (that ended up being buggy as hell).

I would say so far Microsoft is winning the conference was just the sheer volumne of content and commitment to games.

There wasn't much talked about yesterday that I'm not interested in. If I had to rank them...

Last of Us 2 - speaks for iteself
The Division 2 - 8 player co-op with RAIDs
Spider-man - Think Batman Arkham games only with Spider-man
Resident Evil 2- Gotta have me some Resident Evil. I can't believe they remade this.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 - the best video game trailer I have ever seen. Loved the first game. Highly anticipated.
Fallout 76 - It's Fallout so... I'm obligated to play it
Dying Light 2 - I played the shit out of the first game, so I'd love another co-op game
Ghost of Tsushima - Just an excellent demo shown off. That art direction made me cry.
Control - Remedy is back!
Wolfenstein Youngblood: Co-op!
Anthem - co-op element
Trevor Saves the Universe - From teh Rick & Morty guys
Ori and the Will of the Wisps - looks gorgeous
Captain Spirit - Life of Strange devs
Sea of Solitude - love the art here
Metro Exodus - Enjoyed playing the first two Metro games. They are both underrated
We Happy Few - Bizarre and looks like a creative rich story
Death Stranding - Bizarre but I need more info
Sekiro Shadows Die Twice - Dark Souls in Japan
Respawn's Star Wars game
Tomb Raider - How many bad guys will she kill this time around?
Doom Eternal - Doom is great and all, but it's still the same thing we've seen before.
Just Cause 4 - Love me an open world game
Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Skull and Bones - It's basically Assassin's Creed Black Flag without the Assassin's Creed stuff. So Pirates all the time.
Devil May Cry 5 - Looks funny and fun
Rage 2 - Hated the first game, but I'm interested in the open world and co-op
Elder Scrolls 6
Starfield - Skyrim in Space!
Transference - need more info though
Cyberpunk 2077 - Last because of how little info we have on it

Games I suppose I'm not interested in
For Honor
The Crew 2
Battlefield 5
Halo Infinite
Gears 5
Kingdom Hearts 3
Crackdown 3
Forza: Horizon 4
Trials Rising

With present day games, I just beat Detroit: BecomeHuman over the weekend, and it was everything I wanted it to be. Seeing the flowcharts makes me kind of happy in that there's a ton of different directions for this game and I doubt two people can really have the same exact result by this point. There's too many of the Telltale games that makes it seem like you can choose your own adventure, only to have the same result.

My endings:
Connor - Remained a machine. Died four times I believe. His partner committed suicide, and he was really pretty much a failure on all regards except for saving the girl from the rooftop at the beginning.

Markus - Led a violent revolution and freed the androids. Despite destroying Jericho, and being the head of the revolution, the future is anything but bright for Androids as they had control over Detroit. North grew to be a trusting partner, while the other three died in the attack.

Kara - crossed the border with Alice, only to have Alice be shot in the final flee. Alice would later die, but Kara was free to live life however she wanted.

Pretty damn bleak, but it was a fun experience. I can't really see myself playing a second round since many of the different options are all on youtube now. I don't think there's any DLC remaining, so I'll probably move on to something else.

Friend at work has one, I've played it a few times, the Joycons are cheesy as hell and don't feel solid. They're too tiny. That's one frustrating thing - I'd have to spring for a $70 add'l controller almost immediately. But the portable screen looks great, and the bits I've played of Zelda really are lovely. And they've been good about releasing popular series entries in a timely fashion.

I'd also be super-curious to play that Doom game on it.

Details on Cyberpunk 2077

is “an open world, narrative-driven role-playing game” played in the first-person perspective.

Players will assume the role of V, a “hired gun on the rise” in Cyberpunk’s violent metropolis, Night City. CD Projekt Red promises a “robust character creator” that will let players choose their gender, appearance, class and background — choices that may influence how Cyberpunk 2077 plays out.

Players will interact with the residents of Night City through a dialogue system that gives them agency over Cyberpunk 2077’s narrative. The story will be replete with choices and consequences. “Difficult decisions that will ripple through the entire game.”

I was invited to two different parties today. Instead, after getting some chores done, I cracked a beer, and finished my brutal run of XCOM 2 on Legendary difficulty. Rang up one gold and two silver trophies for beating it.

Silver: Beat game on Commander Difficulty (skipped over commander and went straight to Legendary)
Silver: Beat the game on Commander+ w/o losing a soldier
Gold: Beat the game on Legendary.

Oh, and I had a the Shen's gift or whatever its called DLC active. It has some rather difficult Queen enemies (one viper, one beserker, one archon), but the rewards are nice. And that final level is a bitch, plain and simple. The PS4 is screaming for more power the whole time since the game keeps sending more and more squads at you.

Morris I've been gaming since atari2600, my first zelda i played seriously was windwaker. It was just a series that passed me by somehow. But I fell in love with windwaker. Been a zelda fan since.

Scar I worked extra hard getting shit done around the house to clear up weekend....then was too tired to do much else than move newly reacquired VHS collection from mold inducing basement to new storage on 2nd floor. Found my copy of Darkman though, so tomorrow is a win...

Got a Nintendo Switch! It's incredibly small and feels a little cheap, but tonight I should have some time to start up Zelda. I never completed a Zelda game before, but love Ocarina and link to the past.

But I came here to ask something. Should I buy a more coventional gamepad or are the joycons amazing enough to game with?

I would recommend the Pro controller. The joycons are interesting but small.

What an exciting, engaging, unique, touching, and at times elegiac experience. Easily the best of the series, and looking back, easily going to rank among the top 1 or 2 games I have played this entire generation. Highly recommended to anyone who has played the series, or to anyone who is looking for an epic adventure with off the charts production values. Bravo to everyone involved in bringing this game to life.

Been feeling like picking up some games again. Picked up Quantum of Solace and GTA4. Quantum was fun typical Bond shooter. Even when theyre subpar theyre still a fun trip. Was surprised that it actually covers both CR and QOS. Also surprised that the second time I sat down to play it I finished it lol. Total play time maybe 3-4 hours tops. Works for the quality and cost.

Getting into GTA4. I'm enjoying it more than any previous entry (I'm not a fan) but I maintain same complaints...the controls are so damn unintuitive! Died a couple times because I forgot the magic combo to pull out a weapon and use it, because buttons to attack are different depending on how armed. So stupid.

Spider-man Reviews

Overall, Insomniac Games has created a gorgeous, intricately made game that stands alone atop the pantheon of Spider-Man video games. Already touted as a console-seller for the PlayStation 4 (where it is available exclusively), Marvel's Spider-Man will undoubtedly satisfy any tingling Spider-Sense fans have.

SOURCE: The Hollywood Reporter

I wanted Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 to make me feel like Spider-Man: To sail between the highrises of New York City, to nimbly web up hordes of enemies, and tussle with familiar, animal-themed villains. Insomniac Games’ first foray into the world of Marvel handily delivers on all of that. But what I didn’t expect from Spider-Man was to come away feeling just as fulfilled to have inhabited the life of Peter Parker. Aside from a few odd pacing issues, which momentarily took me out of the experience of being a superhero, and a world of optional missions that don’t always quite live up to the heft of the main story, Insomniac has delivered a Spider-Man story that both surprised and delighted me, coupled with gameplay that made me feel like Spider-Man nearly every step of the way. The Wall Crawler’s open world doesn’t consistently deliver the thrilling moments of its main campaign, but the foundation laid here is undoubtedly a spectacular one. [8.4/10]

SOURCE: IGN

But while it doesn’t advance the world of action-adventure superhero games too far forward, the title represents a huge leap for the future of Spider-Man himself as a video game star. Beyond its excellent mechanical refinement and its earnest fondness for the legacy of one of Marvel’s mightiest heroes, the unique strength of Spider-Man lies in its unlikely star. Every great Spider-Man story is actually a great Peter Parker story first and foremost—and no game in Spidey’s long-swinging history within the medium has nailed that idea quite as remarkably as this one.

SOURCE: io9

Ultimately, “Marvel’s Spider-Man” feels like the first entry in an ambitious and promising new series. Making it all the more unfortunate it didn’t do more to subvert expectations, or to pay off some of the more exciting possibilities it seemed to be gesturing toward — and it will likely always exist in the shadow of “Batman: Arkham Asylum.” But its masterful web-swinging and its undeniable sense of joy make for an experience that’s more gratifying and eminently replayable than anything seen from a superhero game in years.

SOURCE: Variety

Marvel’s Spider-Man is a terrific addition to the superhero video game canon and an addicting, thrilling experience that already has me itching to jump back in and swing through the city once again. [9/10]

SOURCE: Slash Film

To be fair, most of Spider-Man’s faults can’t be attributed to design decisions or a lack of effort on the developer’s part. Had it been released a couple of years ago (pre-Breath of the Wild), the collectible-driven approach to crafting an open world wouldn’t have hampered the overall experience. Still, even with a sometimes-boring city and the occasional rote stealth section, Marvel’s Spider-Man is easily the best Spider-Man game to date. Any respectable superhero or Marvel fan shouldn’t even think about skipping this one. [4/5]

SOURCE: We Got This Covered

Its main character is brilliantly realised and a real joy to play. Gameplay is as good as any Arkham game before it and the challenge on offer is tough but rewarding from the off. There’s a real journey here to enjoy as Peter Parker and the main baddies are an electric combination that keeps you coming back for more. Casual gamers may feel a little overwhelmed at first with number of skills to master. The game doesn’t gently ease you in, it’s full-on action all the way. But if you strap yourself in and let Spider-Man take you on an adventure through New York you’re going to have a blast. Marvel's Spider-Man is quite simply one of the best games of the year and an obvious must-buy for all PS4 owners. [5/5]

SOURCE: Daily Star

But as entertaining as Spider-Man is there’s not a single element of gameplay with any real depth and the game is clearly terrified of its audience not knowing what to do for more than a few seconds. In other words, it’s just like most older tie-in games that on the surface use their licence well but purposefully constrain its potential in order not to put off a wider audience. [7/10]

SOURCE:Metro

There aren’t many surprises to the game; despite being an open-world experience, it plays upon a linear story, and the twists that happen feel familiar. The action sequences are breathless and memorable, but after the game’s final act I was left wanting more. Just like a summer blockbuster, Spider-Man leaves too much waiting in the wings for its obviously upcoming sequel.

SOURCE: Polygon

Insomniac’s writers are on fine form, delivering a whip-smart MJ who’s far more than a damsel, and peppering combat with Spidey’s beautifully bad jokes. Its adjustment of J Jonah Jameson into a frothing shock jock is a little stroke of genius. But, in its efforts to produce compelling human drama, the narrative holds back the good stuff for far too long, resulting in a second act that feels stilted and a third that feels rushed. This game shows tremendous love for all things Spider-Man, and the ending packs a punch he would be proud of. But Insomniac relies too much on its hero to elevate the world built around him, with the result that the game wears thin some time before its powerful conclusion. [3/5]

SOURCE: Guardian

There’s going to come a day when the industry will have to move beyond open-world levels peppered with various objectives, towers that unlock portions of the map, RPG-lite mechanics, Arkham combat and stealth, and all the other tropes that fuel Insomniac’s Spider-Man. However, at a time when superhero games - much less good superhero games - are few and far between, it’s easy enough to recommend Spider-Man as a simply enjoyable game of its time that will hopefully lead us towards something a little more timeless. [4/5]

SOURCE: Den Of Geek

Once again, Sony has demonstrated why it is King of Console Exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man is better than it has any right to be. The simple pick-up-and-play action game most of us wanted evolves into a complex and demanding drama few expected. Insomniac achieves this transition without being jarring or heavy-handed, either; the progression of skills, collectibles, objectives and story is neatly and expertly paced. I never felt rushed or overwhelmed. Instead, I learned how to be Spider-Man. And thanks to an immersive story, I felt like Spider-Man too. Not just his ups, but his downs. (A memorable text exchange with Mary Jane was highly relatable content). You won’t want to put it down. And if you’re ever in NYC, you won’t like seeing parks, either. [9/10]

Been playing Zelda: BotW again the last couple of weeks and finally in tablet mode. I was getting a bit bored because I wasn't following the storyline so now things are picking up. Been trying a mid-level boss, he's like a centaur and it's a really fun fight, I should beat him later today. What I'm not experiencing is the supposedly emergent gameplay ideas whereby if something works in real life it probably works in Zelda also. Of course, I'm aware of a few such as heat will cause you to take flight and such, but I don't really see any uses for such a thing. Chopping up trees to cross rivers is all fine and dandy, but link can swim.

So I dunno, eureka moments are rather sparse. I don't feel as jubilant as during Zelda: Toot's more impressive moments. To be sure though, I haven't really progressed that far in the story of BotW. In fact, I'm now getting close to tackling my first titan in Zora's Domain.

One other thing, the visuals in table mode are crispy enough, but I wish the screen was of higher quality. It all looks a bit washed out.

I went after a legendary animal with my peashooter of a ranch pistol and promptly turned into a delicious meal. In fact, most of my guns are pretty lame, so I'm focusing on hunting so I can raise enough money to at least upgrade to a decent pistol. A bunch of those O'Douchbag Brothers robbed me of a good elk pelt yesterday. Hauled that thing half way across the wild west only for them to ambush me just outside of Valentine, and they made short work of me with my shitty guns.

I had two game-breaking bugs in RDR2 in the first 30 minutes of the game. Always in the same spot since I started the game from scratch after the first time.
Furthermore, RDR2's HDR mode has been botched by Rockstar as it is not a true HDR mode, and yet it was advertised as such. That's kinda sad if you have a state of the art television.

Care to explain the game breaking bug?

And, honestly, I think I’ve peaked with the PS4. And I play on a 65” 4K, and things look great to me. Not sure if I’ll go past PS4 and Blu-ray.

It's barely 30 min into the game and please bear in mind I speak of the Xbox one X version. It occurs momens after the shootout at the house when you rode up there with Dutch and Micah to seek shelter and supplies. So you ride back up to your camp, with an extra lady now in tow. In the next shot, Arthur is sitting on a chair, mumbling something, he gets up, the camera immediately goes behind his back as if to say "you can now start controlling Arthur" again and leave the house, except nothing happens. I could not make anything happen. Controller was connected, but it looked like game crashed except Arthur swayed back and forth a bit so it wasn't a real crash.

And game still looks great, but HDR seems indeed dimmer than what is seen on the PS4 Pro's God of War for example.

Last day of vacation will be spent hunting and fishing legendary animals. Already got two legendary fish, and the grizzly, fox, boar, and beaver. Headed to get the moose next. I think there’s a legendary gator too, but it needs to be triggered by the game first. Getting the coyote to spawn is a challenge.

I thought I was kinda done with open world games, but I am loving Spider-Man PS4.

The mixture of big action movie style encounters with main villains, and constantly patrolling and stopping petty crime is a lot of fun and feels like a Spider-Man simulator the way Arkham Asylum felt like a Batman simulator.

Rockstar's insistence on telling a cinematic story is just goofy at times. Still in the beginning, going huntin' with another guy because we're low on food. He's urging me to stay low, to for God sake hunt with a bow instead of a gun because it'll scare off the deer blablabla. But the arrows are hitting diddly squat, so I whip out my shotgun, chase the deer like a madman and back home in 5.

Shotgun maybe quicker, but could net more with stealth and bow...just guessing. Sure, Snake could charge into metal gearing with a machine guns blazing, but maybe hiding in a locker more effective in the long run.

Yeh, what is goofy about that exactly other than you hunting deer with a shotgun?

The game is teaching you how to track animals quietly, which comes in handy throughout the game. Also, each of the deer I took with the bow were kill shots, so I'm wondering about Morris' shot placement. Also, blasting a deer with a shotgun in the game will result in a poor quality pelt, which is worth less money, and can't be used for crafting.

In RDR1, skitch, feel free to go total rambo on the animals, won't make a difference.

I'm probably not giving RDR2 a fair shake I know and should play more before saying such things. But I don't like how sometimes a Rockstar open world, which promises so much, clashes with Rockstar's insistence on telling a rigidly cinematic story. That's GTA by the way. I hated how part V handholded you through some missions rather than saying, that's the mission, now you go figure things out any way you please.

Enjoying the missions far too much than to go off and hunt. This is a great thing, because before, in GTA/RDR I always thought it was a weakness to the game to have the other aspects of the world being more interesting than the game. I'd always get bored.

I haven't started playing RDR2 yet, because I have December 10th- January 2nd off. And I have a feeling I will be playing that a lot during that time.

Also, there was an update to Ghost Recon Wildlands that added a new gameplay mode called "Ghost Mode". You play through the game again, but if you die in the game, there is no restart. You're dead and need to start the game over. So it really puts emphasis on the "recon" aspect of the game. To fully flesh out the area of attack before running in guns blazing. It's intense man.

Still really enjoying Spider-Man.

It’s freaking gorgeous and runs beautifully. Definitely a good showcase for the PS4.

The story telling is great. Wish they would go into thematic territory a little more so they can really position themselves as the next MCU (which is apparently the goal with this game - the dev’s said they wanted it to be for Marvel video games what Iron Man was to the movies).

I do think it could use a bit more content, though. Several areas of the city are devoid of anything for me to do now, and I think I’ve played only about 25 hours and haven’t completed the story yet.

If they want to even attempt to have attention paid to their open world Marvel games when games like RDR 2 and the Fallout/Elder Scrolls are around, they’ll haveto step it up.

The ending was fantastic. Movie level good. Haven’t cried like that with a video game (that I can remember).

Going to try for platinum.

Love what they did with the Spider-Man lore and characters. Kept things fresh and new, while being true to established conventions. There were some very clever character moments. The slow transformation of Octavius was handled really well and gave extra emotional weight to the ending. And the way they tied previously unrelated characters together was very cool.

Also nice that it skipped origin stories for Peter, MJ, May and all the characters that everyone knows. The game starts with Peter already having been Spider-Man for 8 years.

Some of the gameplay mechanics in RDR2 are hopelessly antiquated. I cannot understand one thing. I'm about to enter a compound by jumping over a wooden fence. The compound is packed with O Driscoll's men. My trespassery has been spotted by exactly ZERO of the men and yet, seconds later they're swarming to my position. Did I set off a fucking tripwire? No it's not a stealth game, I get that, but this kinda shit needs to fucking stop Rockstar.

I'm looking to buy on Black Friday and can't decide. Most of the deals are good and if I get 1-2 years use out of the console, I'll be satisfied.

I've been a Playstation whore since the PS1. The dual shock and I are one.

The Switch is tempting, but the Wii U in the basement still plays Mario Kart and Zelda just fine. Plus, Wendy is ridiculously retro with her Nintendo stuff, so for Christmas she's getting an N64. She cracks out on her SNES more than the Wii or Wii U.

I'm probably not the best to ask. I've been known to hold a bias here and I only play primarily on Playstations as their exclusives interest me the most and everything else I play on PC. That being said, I own everything but an Xbone or Switch.

PS4 alone has God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Spider-man, Bloodborne, Uncharted 4 & The Lost Legacy, Last of Us Remaster, Last of Us 2 upcoming, The Last Guardian. So you'll have plenty to do on top of the multi-platform releases.

Yeah I replayed Max Payne 3 like 4 times this summer.

It’s still a great system. Huge library.

I’m eternally bitter about my copy of Resistance 3 not working, though. Bought the trilogy, played the first two in succession and got invested. Number 3 doesn’t play.

It wasn't the best shooter franchise. The first game was a marginal launch title. The second game was a huge step up, and had some great co-op, but still average overall. The third was nothing to write home about either but another marginal step up, but was told from an entirely different character perspective. So a lot of the lore from the first two games was lost.

I can send you Resistance 3 if you want to play. I won't ever touch it again.

I was leaning toward the PS4 because there's a deal now where you can get the base console + "Spider-man" for $200. And Sony wins on exclusives; I almost want the damned thing just to play "Horizon Zero Dawn" and "God of War."

But goddamn the XBOX One X, GamePass, and backwards compatibility looks pretty fucking sweet too (I've never played the original RDR or any of the Mass Effect games).

Yep. Great story indeed. I didn't stick with the DLC because I figured the gameplay would just be a whole lot more of the same. But down the line if they break out into Avengers or other full adventures, I'd definitely be interested. I liked how the geography included a Wakanda Center and the Avengers tower. I also liked that they left a considerable amount of villains out instead of cramming them in like Batman.

Batman is still better as you can tell Spider-Man just took the same approach. But this was a lot of fun.

I'm unconvinced there are that many on Xbox that you can't also get on PS4 (Forza being the one I'm most jealous of). if you don't care about the highest powered systems and the best graphics with a 4k HDR TV, then definitely get the PS4.

I had two RRODs with the XBOX 360. The second one would have cost 100 bucks to fix, and I already had the PS3, so that was the end of my XBOX career. Still, it was fun while it lasted, and I to this day miss playing Left 4 Dead, especially those fun late night chats Megs and I had where we would forget we were playing the game and just BS in the middle of the street, pausing only to shoot the occasional zombie who would show up and so rudely interrupt our conversation.

On the PS3 end of things, I had one of those fail on me as well. Kind of a bummer as I lost a lot of progress in a game I was playing and didn't want to start over on it. The replacement has been doing fine, altho I hardly touch it these days with the PS4 dominating things.

It seems that a new Alien game will be announced during the Game Awards. It will be titled Alien: Blackout.

Red Dead Online by end of week for everyone.

Who wants to make a MC Posse?

Currently in Chapter 3. Got yelled at for not contributing enough money, but when looking at the books, my camp is absolutely terrible at contributing. Wish I could call them out on that. We've done plenty of upgrades. One time I heard Dutch yelling at everyone to get to work repeatedly... Curious where this is going considering, outside of what will be an obvious camp move once the city of Rhodes realizes we're frauds as sheriffs.

I've been holding out to see if Red Dead was going to be announced on PC. But I'm likely going to buy on PS4 over Christmas Break. So I'll join up then.

Went back a bit to God of War as I felt bad leaving that game hanging and starting up RDR2.

It's a good game, but I miss the epic scale of the previous games. It's a bit samey, with encounters that resemble each other a bit too much. But I'll persevere though. It's too polished and fun to not go on with it.

Is anyone getting a Playstation Classic? If so, how are you going about getting one?
