Some thoughts on this one: http://www.inreviewonline.com/inreview/current_film/Entries/2013/8/5_Europa_Report_(2013).htmlCon gratulations on joining the iRO team! You're in good company. That's a solid review as well, I particularly enjoyed your perceptive observation regarding the recurring shot of the dwindling crew. If Cordero hadn't relied so much on all the gimmicky "rewinding and fast-forwarding," I may have rated this even higher. I can see it being a popular film around these parts once its existence catches on.

Slightly better than Apollo 18 but just as meaningless and unfulfilling.

As meaningless as Apollo 18?! More than anything, it struck me as a very moving and lucidly wrought testament to courage and sacrifice in the spirit of scientific discovery.

Yeh the latter statement in your post holds up but damn what a bore.

Easy thumbs up. I'm still thinking about it days later. Most notably...I'm amazed how it was a bit terrifying, yet if you really think about it, its not remotely a horror movie. Just pure science fiction. Love that.

But yes, I agree, the rewinding and fast-forwarding was unnecessary. I think they did that to pad the run time.

Whoo. This was fun. Intentionally low-key, an emphasis on awe, some clever tricks that give the found footage breathing room, and a few edge-of-your-seat sequences that reminded me of Touching the Void. A bit more room for character might've been nice, but it also might've broken the small but tenable spell the flick casts.

I do think that

the alien didn't need to be shown - another octopus alien? Blah.
