this another remake?

http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/shutter/large.html

looks like a combination of the grudge, white noise and the ring.

This one actually has the opportunity to be better than the original, because the original really sucks. The imagery of the female ghost is striking (like when she hides in camouflage agains the wallpaper), though, and what's this? Long-tongued, de-clothing Asian mystery chick (presumably the ghost, since she's like, decaying)? Gratuitous exoticism in the most shameless example of the Asian ghost subgenre's steady progression toward sleaze since The Grudge 2? Or perhaps lending to a subversive, possibly racially conscious (oooh) subtext in which the film is about this gross sexualization of a spectre of abuse haunting a (now Caucasian!) man?

If you've seen the original, you can see the possibilities.

Alas, the remake'll probably similarly suck balls.

The original was a pretty boring and by-the-numbers "scary Asian girl" movie, until the ending with her sitting on his neck which I found very creepy.

This looks bad.

why do all the monsters/ghosts have to be asian still?

Well, it's a remake of an Asian film...

To a white person, there is nothing scarier than an Asian.

I didn't think the original sucked, but I thought it was going to be a great deal scarier than it was.

I realize that but why didn't they use Asian actors for the Ring or the Grudge then?

I thought The Grudge was set in Japan? Surely there were some Japanese actors in that one - at least in supporting roles? (I haven't actually seen it, though).

But it seems Shutter just has Japanese supporting roles, because Joshua Jackson and Rachael Taylor are both definitely white.

Stereotypically this is so wrong.

It was, but why get Sarah Michelle Gellar to play the main role? or Rami's brother? it just seems like a bad idea mixing the two.

I love the original (don't get why you guys are dissing it!), and I won't be seeing this...as usual with the remakes.

Shutter kicked all sorts of ass. An ending hasn't creeped me out that hard since Sleepaway Camp.
